After hearing his news, paying him and thanking him for his information, I called some one else that had been recommended to me.
The next guy came out, jumped in the pool, told me it was a quick fix and fixed the leak in my pool. It's been leak free since the second guy came out.
Therefore, cannot in good conscience recommend someone that, though not intentional ( I don't think), gave me the wrong information and charged me a lot of money for it.
Three weeks later I still had a leak and made appointments to come to me 4/22, 4/25 and no one showed up. Even Eddie the owner did not show and I never received a call. Eddie finally came and patched it (not with the hydraulic cement I paid for). Since he did not use Hydraulic he gave me a written warranty until 1/17.
The leak started again and Eddie sent Ray on 2/8 to fix the leak with Hydraulic cement. When Ray came he did not even have the equipment to fix the leak. He simply glanced over the pool skimmer, used a needle with a colored liquid, and within 5 minutes said there was no leak but will do another leak test for $325. I said no and spoke with Eddie requesting he either properly fix it or I'll have another pool company do a test and he would pay for the leak test and fix it if in the same area. Eddie said the company must be licensed, in business for 10+ years, and have pictures taken. I agreed and he later insisted he be there and I pay him $350 to be there to watch the other pool company test for the leak so it would cost me $675. Afer thinking about it I said there was no need for him to be there since I would hire a Company per his specifications. He would not agree to another leak test or to fix the leak unless I paid him the $350. Eddie told me "YOU CAN'T TRUST ANY POOL LEAK COMPANY IN SOUTH FLORIDA". He then said since I previously filed a complaint with the BBB he would do nothing.
While I was initially quite satisfied when Florida Pool and Leak Specialists came to diagnose my pool leak in January, 2015 and fixed it a couple of weeks later with a Hydraulic repair ($595.50 total), and I wrote good reviews on their behalf, I have been extremely disappointed and dissatisfied ever since.
The leak returned approximately 3-4 weeks later and they sent someone to look at it. He indicated that he was only able to epoxy the skimmer area but IT SHOULD HAVE A HYDRAULIC CEMENT REPAIR, which I paid for. I called the Company and the said the epoxy should work and I negotiated a two year warranty.
About three weeks ago I called the Company to advise them that I performed the ?bucket test? they prescribe and I was losing water at the rate of one tile length (4-5?) per week. They said it could be another leak but I explained the background and they said they would send someone but if it was not in the same area I would be responsible for the costs. Anyway I agreed to have them come out since I was confident that the leak was in the same area anyway.
They were busy and made an appointment for about 10 days later to come between 9 and 10 AM Thursday 4/23/15. On 4/22 they called to indicate the service person couldn?t make it. I had to call them back twice to get a new date which was 4/25/15 between 10 AM and 1 PM. No one showed up by 12:45 PM so I called the Company (received a voicemail), left them a message and sent them an email about the situation.
On Monday 4/27/15 their President, Eddie, called and after attempting to make a few excuses like new people, etc.; indicated the epoxy should have done the trick and the person they sent out did not know about pool repairs so wasn?t in a position to say it needed hydraulic cement (don?t know why they sent out a person who doesn?t know about pool repairs to fix my leak). Anyway, Eddie said and reinforced that he would come out personally between 2:00 and 4:00 PM today (4/29/15) to view the repair himself. I?M STILL WAITING FOR EDDIE TO SHOW UP AND IT?S 9:00 PM???EVEN EDDIE DIDN?T HAVE THE COMMON COURTESY TO CALL. At this point I strongly suggest you do not use this company!!!!
I was very pleased with the attention and care they gave me in helping me figure out what was wrong with my pool.
While it is small enough that I am not going to do anything about it now, I will definitely use them in the future.
The technician who replaced the skimmer was also very professional. He did a excellent job of replacing the skimmer and retiling the area around the skimmer with tile we supplied him. The only problem was punctuality. We were initially told that the job of replacing the skimmer would take around one and a half days, but it actually took about a week. If we were told that he would be at our house at 9:00 am, he would show up in the afternoon or the next day. Since it was work being done to our pool in the wintertime, the amount of time it took and when the work was done was not that important. We were very pleased with the work performed and would use them again.
DIANE MADE THE APPOINTMENT , NO PROBLEM.
TONY PROVIDED THE SERVICE, ON TIME WITH EXPERT CARE.
OVERALL A SMOOTH EFFECTIVE VISIT.
HOPE THE LEAK STAYS FIXED.
IF NOT I'M CONFIDENT THEY WILL RETURN TO FIX IT.
We developed a very serious leak in our swimming pool, and technician Tony was able to come out within 24 hours (other companies were telling me 1 week). Finding the leak was more involved than typical due to the size and complexity of our installation, but they put in the extra effort required to get the job done, without any complaint or increase in the quoted price. It was obvious that Tony is a conscientious and professional person, and that the company backed him in his commitment to do the job properly.
I manage a large estate here in Miami Beach, and as a result I do business with many local contractors. Without question Florida Pool and Leak ranks as one of the best groups that I've had the pleasure to work with. I would confidently recommend them, and they will be my first and only call in the future.
As it turned out, we didn't have a leak and should have performed "bucket test" to check levels of evaporation. We were very sure there was a leak and very mistaken, as we discovered after the checks and the belated bucket test that measures levels of natural evaporation.
Would certainly use this company again should we develop a real problem.
It should be noted that if punctuality is VITAL, 1st or early morning appointment helps with on-time arrival. Their business involves unanticipated delays. Had they found a minor leak in my pool, they would have immediately repaired it. Something more major would have taken longer. Their scheduling is based on the laws of average, and unlike our doctors, they do don't intentionally overbook.
They did a thorough job looking for the leak and were able to find it. Provided a reasonable estimate to repair.
On the day scheduled for the repair, came in to see what tools they needed to do repair, and rescheduled for another day.
Finally came in and did repair.
I was here all the time, and the rescheduling did not pose a problem.
If I had taken time off for work to be here during the inspection and repairs, it would have been a major problem.
I am very pleased and wished i would of call them earlier!!
First of all, despite the negative comments I'm going to list, I would still hire the company again because the bottom line is they found the leak and it is fixed. Unfortunately, the experience is not as they picture it in the company video. The first technician arrived in a beat-up van. There was no company lettering on the side of the truck and he did not wear a shirt with the company name. When I received the estimate for the repair the owner called me and gave me an amount over the phone. The company video stated you would get a written estimate of all work to be performed, and I prefer this in case there is a misunderstanding. He told me it would be a couple days to get me the estimate in writing. As I mentioned above- when I requested licensing information I was faxed an expired Dade county license (which is current- I was faxed the wrong copy). If you use them outside of Dade county I would recommend checking the license. As far as I could see, they are not licensed in Broward.
The repair technician called me at the time he was due to arrive and told me he'd be to me in an hour. That was fine- at least he called. I figured I'd definitely see a company employee for a $700 repair. No, this one arrived in a beat-up Amigo that could barely hold his tools and supplies. He was very nice, but it was obvious he was a sub-contractor, not a company employee who would have a company shirt and a prepared vehicle full of what is needed to do the job. The repair ended up taking 7 hours total, but that was because he had to leave to find supplies.
I understand paying a bit more money when an employer pays for vehicles, tools, uniforms, payroll tax, etc. Yet in this case I felt I hired a middle-man (one with very good subcontractors) to fix my pool. If anything major had gone wrong I don't know how well I would have been covered. I can't complain- the work was done and done to my satisfaction. I just feel it was overpriced considering all the other factors.
After reading several good reports about Florida Pool and Leak Specialists, I called on Wed, 11/16 after business hours. They have an answering service that was professional enough and Eddie returned my call the next morning, Thursday 11/17.
I was relieved after reading the reports and speaking with Eddie that it would probably be a simple repair. I asked when he could come out and he said Saturday at 12:30. I said great, Keep in mind that I did not request that time nor did I ask him to rush me into his schedule or anything like that.
I told him I found them on Angie's List and was happy to have done so.
He quoted me a price of $295. for the service call and about $75. for the repair (in most cases unless it was something serious) Knowing what the prices were from Angie’s List, it seemed like it had crept up a bit but I was ok with that.
This morning around 11:15 I called Eddie first- to make sure they are still planning on coming for our appointment and second to verify their timeliness. He mentioned they were running about an hour behind - not happy that I had to call to discover this I said ok as this will put their arrival at 1:30. I asked how long my appointment should take and he said about an hour.
2:30 comes and still call from the guard gate (i.e.: no knock on the door) nor a call from them. I left Eddie a message saying that I found this to be unacceptable and IF he showed in a reasonable amount of time (after he called me back) I would continue with the appointment.
After waiting patiently for another half hour I decided to draft this review.
Keep in mind a few things. It is a clear and sunny all day today. There has been no rain at all.
I have a 2 year-old and a safety-net as well as a bad back. Taking the safety-net (not pool fence) off hurt like h*** but was (WOULD HAVE BEEN) worth it had the repair been made. I am not looking forward to putting it back on. Also, remember I told them I was on Angie's List.
Buyer beware if you are able to be home all day and don't mind tardiness and a total lack of communication and respect, they might be the right company for you. The reports here have read that they are pricey but I think for about $400. an hour they should be courteous. My business attorney doesn't even charge that much and I can get him on the phone.
Look I understand that once they get deep into a project, there could be some unforeseen items that need tending to and take up additional time that was not calculated into their day. They should have said something.
I am of the opinion that free time is more valuable than work time. If I willingly give up my free time - and pay $400. for on top of that, I think some courtesy is in order. I would have gladly left to do some of the things I wanted to do with my time and met them later when they could make it. I assure you if I gave them an invoice for my time that they wasted, their jaws would drop and shatter.
You would think that knowing I called from Angie's they would have been that much more responsive. I am incredibly discouraged by their lack of professionalism and the free time I had to waste.
I would think to try other pool leak repair companies and not just the first one you come across like I did.
Update: Eddie called back at 3:10 to apologize and say they were delayed. When I challenged him why he did not call earlier he said they were out of cellular service range. I give him points for originality (and told him so) but that excuse is not valid. He apologized sarcastically and I mean Steve Martin “Well excuuuuse me!, sarcastically.
Let's assume he was on the beach like he said and there he actually had a dead spot among one of the most populous regions in the county (not likely) - well there are land lines. If he's working on a building that is commercial or residential, there is someone there who let him in and needs to sign off on their work.
More likely than not, there is a high probability that said person has an office with a land line. A better effort, or any in this case, could have been made. The beach is 45 minutes from my house and if he would have arrived at 4PM as he said he was on his way, he still would have been 3.5 hours late. They may be great with pool leaks but their customer service and dependability leave a lot to be desired.
Thankfully, this is why WE all subscribe to Angie's List to avoid crapola like this.
BTW - I have been in the Sahara desert and still had a cell signal.
