PROFESSIONAL! BEAUTIFUL! INTEGRITY! I have a lot to say about Jesse and Joel, and the superb work they did, especially because my pool/patio had a lot of issues and needed so much work done. In order to really appreciate the work that Jesse did, you need to know what he had to deal with. I hope this review will not only help people decide that the only tile company they need to choose is Cousin's, but also help them make better choices after reading about my experiences during this process. Inform yourselves! Google for information. Get a lot of quotes. Don't go with the cheapest, you get what you pay for! And when I tell you that you can trust Jesse and Joel, you really can! They answer your questions and tell you what you need to know, even if you don't know to ask it. I have never worked with people as honest, knowledgable and professional as Jesse and Joel. Hiring them is like winning the Lottery of Tile Companies. You will get back so much more than you pay, in a beautiful, professional and correct-the-first-time job! Jesse emailed me 2 quotes based on 2 different patterns I was considering, (Diagonal or French...I went with French because Diagonal uses more tile, due to more cuts and is costlier.) He even met me at D&B Tile when I was having trouble deciding which tile to get and answered all of my questions re different tile types, as well as how natural stone reacted with salt water pools, (it's not a problem ). Here are the things that Jesse did, in chronological order. Hope I didn't leave anything out. He did a lot of work and it is all superior. I feel like I'm living in a resort whenever I look out at my new patio, pool and fabulous waterline tile that Jesse set! :) Jesse cut a trench through the concrete deck to assist my electrician when she needed to replace the wiring and conduit for the light; He prepped the coping area, removed, chiseled, ground with tools and smoothed it; He built a wood form around the coping area, where he poured concrete, remolding and meticulously measuring the coping base; he corrected the coping height all the way around the pool. (Please note: I had paid the pool company to remove the coping. They did a horrible job, so I paid Jesse to do it right, and he did it with perfection. My first lesson...have Jesse to do it right the first time!); Jesse set the travertine coping precisely, cutting the pieces to follow the serpentine S-curves of our 'kidney shaped' pool. He had given me choices of grout color and made recommendations depending on the tile he was setting. I went with his recommendations and the color match was perfect; My contract with the pool company, (that was working ahead of Jesse, to prep the pool), included installation of the new waterline tile. I had purchased glass tile for the waterline, stairs and tops of the 2 benches I was having added to the pool. The pool crew was supposed to remove the old waterline tile, etc. Instead, they brushed the bond material OVER the old waterline tile and stair tile, which is completely unacceptable! The pool company owner said it was OK like that and they would install the new tile over the old! I couldn't believe the arrogance and incompetence of this pool company! Plus, he admitted that he could not cut glass tile. I told him that he was no longer doing my waterline tile and deducted that from the pool price. I would much rather have a Master Tiler such as Jesse, prepping the surface of and laying the waterline tile on to the pool, stairs and benches. Jesse came through and did an amazing job with the glass tile. His work is precise. He is very particular and nothing gets past him; Jesse prepped the pool floor and laid 3 turtle mosaics, after he did the glass waterline tile (before the pool company had their crew do the diamond brite); Jesse 'floated the deck', which meant mixing and spreading a thin layer of a substance that was like a thin concrete/plastic material that smoothed over the entire deck, which dries to a smooth hard surface, prepping it for the tile to come. ('Plastic' may be the wrong description, but it's what it felt like): Jesse built a wooden form around my crumbling patio door bases, poured concrete and placed rebar, to repair and widen the bases for the impact glass doors that we intend to buy, but didn't get to before the patio tiling was to be installed. After we get the doors installed, Jesse will return to finish up the edges, as we decided to add a travertine 'base board' all along the exterior wall of the patio, but can't do it until the doors are in); Joel cut the travertine tile and Jesse laid it, in a French pattern. It is beautiful! It is graded, so the water goes away from the house and pool, just like it did before he started; Joel cut a difficult circular 'collar' from one piece of tile, to put on top of the tile, and underneath the new 'in-deck' skimmer lid, so that it laid flat between the coping and the new level of the floor; Jesse put a new stainless steel drain cover over the patio drain; Jesse and Joel grouted the patio; After the grout dried, Jesse's wife, Ria, assisted Jesse, cleaning and preparing the patio for a penetrating sealer that Jesse highly recommend. They vacuumed and then washed the patio twice. The following day, Ria came to seal the patio. She was very thorough and got all of the nooks and crannies; (Jesse told me that the sealants that give tile the 'wet look' eventually peel under the UV light of the sun, leaving the patio splotchy, and that it was not the best choice. He recommended a penetrating sealant.) Jesse always arrived exactly when he said he would, on time and ready to work. His assistants were very capable and professional. After each days work, everyone cleaned up leftover tile pieces, cleaned their tools and plaster buckets, neatly stacked tile that they were going to use, as well as the extra pieces that were saved in case they were needed later. They always left the patio and side yard neat; Add to this huge job the complexity and constraints of having to work in between the schedules of the 3 other companies that were working on my pool/patio/pergola at the same time, plus coordinating the other jobs that Jesse was also committed to, and you have the formula for a perfect storm...and yet, it never happened! Jesse was like a machine...always there when he said he would be. He told me ahead of time if he wouldn't be there, and who would be, and that person was there, on time. Everyone at Cousins Tile has been a complete pleasure to work with. Jesse is a Master Tiler and Artist, with over 40 years experience, and Joel, literally born into the trade, has several decades of tiling experience, training and knowledge. Their 'Standard' is far Superior to others in their field. They are not the cheapest, (never hire the cheapest) and they are not the highest. Their work is excellent! And they are excellent people as well as masters of their craft. They take great pride in their work and you will to. Thank you Jesse, Joel & Ria! We look forward to working with you in the very near future!
