I tool my 2001 Toyota RAV 4 (with 185,000) miles), to Alonso Transmission for what I thought was just a slipping transmission. I had called and taken the car to several transmission places in Miami and was not happy with the answers and attitude given by other companies.
I am so glad that Alonso Transmission was recommended to me! My car is now working as good as new. Ray gave me a fair estimate of the cost and the car was finished in 3 days, right on schedule.
Ralph and Ray are true professionals and true gentlemen and their integrity and honesty is such a breath of fresh air in Miami and South Florida. No wonder they have been in business for over 20 years!
I will give them a 5 star rating and will recommend this company to ANYONE that has a transmission problem.

- Great Repair Service in Miami, especially for Larger Vehicles
- Over the last eight years in Miami, I have wasted a lot of time and money at incompetent and deceitful auto repair shops. So I was very happy to find extremely good service and follow-up at Alonso Transmission this past summer. They remain the first shop I recommend to friends, especially when they are having problems with larger vehicles.
- My 23-ft. class-C RV is built on a 1986 Chevy G-30 van chassis. Less than 50 miles after spending $1,600 on repairs at the Goodyear shop run by Carl Pelt and Sons in Homestead, FL, smoke was billowing out of the rear wheel area and it would only move in Reverse gear. Even though the work was still under warranty, I saw no point in bringing the vehicle back to Pelt and Sons for yet more slow and useless “repair.”
- After consulting with auto service centers over the phone, the consensus was that the transmission needed to be overhauled, with cost estimates ranging from $1,400 to over $2,000. My first thought was to go to locally well-known Wiwi Transmissions since they had done good work on another vehicle of mine back in 2007. But Wiwi said they were not equipped to handle a RV. Fortunately, a light repair shop near my home in S. Miami said that, for many years, they had been sending all such jobs to Alonso Transmission because they were way more dependable than any other company, even the one a just a few doors down the street. Before entrusting them with my RV, I visited Alonso and was encouraged to see how professional and well-organized both the office and shop were. They also had the strong lifts and height clearance to do work on trucks; as they proudly stated, my RV was not nearly as big as the county school buses they regularly service.
- Over the following week, Alonso Transmission’s staff, especially their mechanical troubleshooter Ralph and office manager Rey, constantly proved to be very cordial, knowledgable, meticulous, and honest.
- Their superior service started with just getting the RV over to the shop in the first place. S. Miami AAA had sent two different tow trucks to try to haul it, but neither could figure out how to get the rear wheels to roll forward. During this ordeal, Ralph, who is fluent in both English and Spanish, advised us by phone repeatedly over a period of two hours despite it being past normal business hours (he didn’t charge me for the time). After we gave up on AAA, he sent over a crew that solved the problem quickly.
- The RV was delivered to the shop in the late afternoon and Rey reported back to me the next morning that the problem was not the transmission, but cheap parts that had crumbled and jammed the rear drum brakes, causing the wheels to lock in any Forward gear. These were exactly the parts that Pelt and Sons had installed less than 50 miles earlier. Before starting any work, Rey gave me an estimate that detailed every part, service, and labor time that would be needed to fix the problem, emphasizing that I should use high-quality parts. Since everything was reasonably priced, I let them add on a warranteed transmission inspection and service: the vehicle was old, there was no record of transmission maintenance or inspection ever having been done, and so I
- thought it was worth making sure everything was in good shape before I went on a long trip. The work was promptly done and I was relieved to see that not a single penny more was charged than the list I had originally approved.
- Because of the age of the RV, there were other small repairs that I requested after the main work was done and which Alonso promptly performed, some of them for no charge at all, such as installing a new battery tray (the old one had corroded away). It
- is common knowledge that shops that can do difficult transmission work well are also skilled at doing simpler repairs; Alonso Transmission proved this adage to be true.
- A few days later, I was on the road again, the RV running more smoothly than it had ever done in recent years. I encountered no problems during the 600-mile round-trip. When Rey called to follow up on the repair and invite me to bring it back for a free check-up, I was too far away to bring it in. I felt that the invitation was a fine courtesy to extend and showed me that Alonso Transmission has confidence in their work.
- After unbelievably bad experiences with repair shops in Miami, whether for mechanical or body work (the one exception being Wiwi Transmissions, which, however, as I’ve already mentioned, does not work on RVs), I couldn’t help but feel that I had karmically earned the pleasure of receiving great, honest service at Alonso Transmission. I expect its fine reputation to continue to grow and that it will be rewarded with wonderful success for its superior work and unmatched dedication to customers.

Well, transmission replaced by Alonso. Things weren't do smoothe from get go, but after some adjustments, it seemed to be running ok. But now, EVERYTHING is WRONG. Had to replace tie rods (by a separate company), now engine hesitates when starting and wheels on both sides clicking. AND engine jerking when changing gears. Almost don't feel like going back... I'm not so sure their fixes have any sense of longevity. I hope they aren't a "get-em-in-get-em-out" kind of place, but I don't really know. We shall see...

I got this company info from Angie's List and called and spoke to Ray. The transmission in my car was slipping and sometimes seeming to go into neutral like a stick shift, but it's an automatic. The car is a 1999 Camry with 133,000 miles and I thought the transmission may be going out. Ray asked me to bring the car in so their tech could check it out with no charge to me. I took the car in today and Ralph drove the car and of course it showed no problems. He then asked me how the car acted and when? After first start-up in the morning, or after driving several miles? He then checked the transmission fluid level and found it was low and the engine oil level was down some too. He topped them off and said the transmission should now be OK. When I asked Ray how much I owed them he said there was no charge. In Miami????? No charge?? Wow. These guys do run an honest shop, no sales hype, no BS. Just straight talk. I have already recommended them to a family member, and would highly recommend Alonso Transmission to any one.

Ray strives to give excellent customer service and treat his customers like family members and it is this quality that I noticed that set him apart from other places. Our car overheated because the transmission leaked into our cooling system. Ralph recommended a flush and replaced a broken cooler with a used one to save on the cost. They were honest and made good recommendations. The coolant leaked as they made a mistake, but were quick to fix the problem. He thoroughly explained what was going on with the car so we could make an educated decision. I learned it's important to keep up with the maintenance on your transmission. I would recommend them.

Car would not shift into forward gears, only reverse when my son got out of work. Looked up transmission shops on Angie's list and liked the review on this shop. Phoned the shop and they received my car which was towed in. My contact at the shop was Ray who is very knowledgeable and professional. The day after the car entered the shop I got a call with the the transmission repair estimate and other items I should consider doing because of seals starting to leak (no pressure on getting these done, my choice, but made sense to do at same time). All of the repair was arranged over the phone without me going to the shop.
The repair was done quickly and for the agreed amount. Car is working perfectly with transmission shifting same as when car was new. No doubts - any future transmission repair and maintenance such as filter and fluid change will be done at Alonso's. Highly recommended.

Even though the shop is busy with cars everywhere, and I had just driven up with no appointment, Ralph had me immediately drive into the garage to scan my car and analyze what was wrong. He informed me that it was an intermittent electrical problem. Since I am from out of town he recommended that I return home and have my local shop work on fixing the problem as it might take awhile to resolve. I was impressed by his eagerness to help me and his honesty and telling me what he thought was wrong. He charged nothing for his time and advice.

As a follow-up, Ray asked me to bring the car back in ten days for a free checkup, only to ensure that everything was alright. I did so, and the GM checked the car and I was on my way in twenty minutes. I was again impressed by the professionalism of this company and its employees. I would recommend tghis company in the most strongest terms to be sure that you are gettiong the best service at the best price.

all i can say is alonso's transmission is the best place to go for anything transmission related...i have a 2001 Jaguar XJR with a very complex transmission setup and Ralph was able to solve my problem very easily and cheaply...the dealer quoted me $4000 and it turned out to be a simple fix....Alonso's Transmission is an honest, down to earth, and affordable transmission place...don't think to go anywhere else for your transmission needs...go to alonso's and ask for ralph!
