Auto Service
Last year, over a period of maybe 6 weeks, very gradually my auto AC lost coolness. Fan worked, no cold air. I thought it was a leak. Took it to Manny at AAA Air Conditioning. I told him the symptom and he charged it with freon for $40.00 and it was cool.
In six weeks again, no cold air. Went back. Told Manny the symptoms, this time I left the car and he called saying I needed a new compressor. ($374.50) OK,l did it. Cold air again! Six weeks or so later, NO COOL AIR. Went back to Manny.
THIS TIME HE PUTS DYE IN THE UNIT!! He charged the unit again (no charge to me) and when it lost cooling ability again in about another six weeks, he saw the leak and fixed it at no additional cost.
I don't know what the leak fix should cost but I know it's not as much as a new compressor. If he had done the right thing in the first place, it would have been: Charge the unit, inject the dye. In another six weeks, fix the leak and recharge the unit. Maybe $150 max instead of between 4 and 5 hundred.
