Merritt Island Air & Heat has been proudly serving all of Central Florida since 1971. In 1977, we became a certified dealer for General Electric, who was eventually acquired by Trane. This forged an even stronger product line and partnership for years to come. Merritt Island Air & Heat has been a Trane Comfort Specialist™ dealer since the merger of General Electric and Trane for over 30 years now, growing to one of the most trusted HVAC companies in Central Florida. They came to fix a capacitor and then gave me the doom and gloom story about my A/C is over ten years old and the end of the world is near. He said I was low on Freon, but It blow cold before the capacitor blew out but now it doesn't. He let freon out to try and sell me a new system. Look at all the other reviews, they are all unknown. They probably wrote them themselves.

This is the second time we've used Merritt Island Air & Heat for an AC repair. I cannot say enough good things about this company! Cathy handled a scheduling miscommunication yesterday with great professionalism and bent over backwards to accommodate us. Thomas was the tech who came out, and he got us up and running within 30 minutes! Dependable, knowledgable, and fairly priced. Both experiences with this company made us feel like we were being treated with the utmost integrity. On each occasion, a less reputable company could have easily taken advantage of us; but both times, Merritt Island Air & Heat fixed our AC quickly and much more cheaply than we were expecting. We are so grateful to have found an AC company we feel like we can trust 100%!

Don checked on the blower fan relay on 7/23 and asked that we try to see if the relay was the problem by allowing the fan to run continuously. If the problem of the blower stopping and freezing the AC unit did not continue, then we knew it was the relay.

The test worked and the relay was replaced on 8/1.

I contacted them on 7/1/14 requesting someone to repair my AC unit due to freezing problems. I was told that the service could be conducted the same afternoon.
Charlie arrived and after we explained what was wrong and what we had done to try and keep the situation from getting worse, he offered some suggestions for fixing the problem. He went about troubleshooting the system and found it to be low on Freon. The Freon was recharged and the system checked for any further problems. He further went on to suggest other maintenance we could perform to keep our system functioning normally and what to watch for if things start to go wrong.
I would definitely call them again and while mentioning that, please call rather than trying to use the scheduling function located
here in Angie’s list. I tried that function (my first Angie’s list request) and that did not seem to work.

This is a belated review just because I finally got in the mood to do so. Also, we have had one follow up issue which affected the ratings. I had to have an air conditioner replaced in 2012 and got a quote from Merritt Island Air and Lowes for a Trane system. Merritt Island Air beat Lowes by a mile. I found out the only thing Lowes adds is the ability to finance purchases and an extra 10% or so. Merritt Island Air was very professional and seemed knowledgeable They were prompt and courteous. Just based on this experience, I would go with them again. However, subsequently I had a bad experience with one of their employees who was moonlighting doing inspections for insurance companies Even though his activity was not directly related to Merritt Island Air, this person was so inept and caused so much grief between me and my insurance company that I shopped around when I had to replace a second air conditioner less than a year later. A second experience caused me to go with a different company, Dial, for the second install and is reflected in the ratings. In this experience, the system which Merritt Island installed is supposed to maintain humidity and it wasn't doing so effectively. On a service call, their tech basically couldn't find anything wrong and did nothing to fix the situation. Less than two weeks later Dial Plumbing and Air found the Freon was low and fixed the problem. Because of this I dropped their rating slightly.
