Showed up as scheduled. Boom, boom, boom. Hard working crew, didn't stop until it was done. Footings and slab took about four long workdays, then the block guys showed up and took over a week.
Very satisfied with the hard-work, professionalism, and the great job they did.
These guys are pros. They enjoy their work, and are proud of their work.
Watching them, I had no doubt they were doing a great job.
It was a great job. Highly recommend.
Happy camper.
The shuffle board court was supposed to have a nice smooth finish. During the pour of it, they got stuck in the rain and had to try and cover it up several times. I understand that the rain messed things up, but I'm now left with a very rough finished concrete that was only hand trowed. I will have to rent some type of machine to buff/smooth surface. They did put a good amount of rebar in it, but it has already developed three good size cracks that span the entire width.
The trenches turned out fine, but they were pretty much a no brainer. They did run out of the concrete (standard mix with rock in it) that was supposed to be used in the trenches because they used too much on the shuffle board court. This also shouldn't have happened, but they shot in the court the morning of the pour. Had the shot in and leveled the forms the day before, they could have adjusted the concrete quantity accordingly.
The biggest disappointment was filling in the 1" drop in the living room area. This was the main reason for getting a concrete crew out and had this turned out good, I probably wouldn't care about the other disappointments/frustrations. Going in, I knew this was going to be a fairly difficult pour trying to get one room flat/level as best as possible to the surrounding three rooms. The end result was supposed to be one great room that would all be tiled. I knew that making the floor level wasn't going to happen, but I at least wanted it flat. The end result has several large humps/ridges in it, some are as much as 3/4" high relative to the immediately surrounding area. This obviously wouldn't work for laying large 18x24 tiles. I am going to have to grind down the large high spots and maybe even add self leveler to one corner that came out significantly lower. This is extremely frustrating!
Finally they left a large pile of left over concrete on the side of my house. It was enough to fill one of the very large trash cans with wheels on it. I can understand that you need to empty/clean your tools, but figured they would have come back to deal with it.
Overall, Randy was a nice guy and offered a low price, but I thought the quality of his work was poor. It was evident that they crammed 2 days of work into one to cut cost and tried to further cut cost by skimping on the buggy rental. I can only imagine how torn up my yard would have been if the concrete truck backed up in it. I would not recommend him for any future work and really wish that I would have gone with one of the other contractors I got quotes from. I did not call him back to complain or get him to try and fix the job because I felt nothing good would have resulted from it. In hindsight I should not have paid him until the concrete had cured a day to show all the problems.
