"Thanks, I do (we do) try to do the best possible job on every roof. It will be done as if it were our own. My guys are very good at what they do, and I enjoy being on the job as much as possible Jim"
"Thanks for the nice review, we don't solicit reviews, but it is nice when my customers feel motivated enough to write one. This customer had a tough chimney problem and had many futile repair attempts made by other roofers, but we did get it back to par. The high temperatures made it difficult, Florida is HOT in August, if you didn't already know that! Again, we go out of our way to do a good job with all our customers. It is difficult to get to everyone after the hurricane we had in October, so be patient. All the roofers are busy... wait a while if you can, it will slow down soon, wait for a good roofer if possible, you know who they are. It's great when I get a review from a real customer, I have had a few reviews from people I didn't even talk to or may have told them we don't do townhouses, etc. Those are the ones who try to punish with a bad review, they must be very angry people."
"I like to work for nice people"
with a Costly Leaking Roof from a fly-by-night roofer..
Second concern was about not being able to locate a Roofer with high
standards, a good reputation and who produces quality work.
We did extensive research looking for a Professional Roofer in our area with a long track record.
Researched the multiple new roofing products and mandatory hurricane code guidelines.
We contacted several roofing contractors for price quotes.
We received 3 quotes from area roofing companies.
Set up appointments.
The previous nights rain caused the old roof patch to fail.
Which quickly turned a new roof search into an urgent repair as heavy rain was in the weeks forecast.
Jim Behan (quote 2) arrives to give us the quote and inspection report.
Upon seeing the damaged roof he was concerned and said that it had to be patched as soon as possible.
Then he offered to come back the next day to patch the leaking area.
This was offered whether or not we chose him for the bid.
With just a small fee to patch it if he wasn't chosen.
In addition he noticed our newly stamped concrete driveway and recommended they use their lift dump truck for debris removal also he would then park it in an area that would not damage the driveway.
His concern for our safety and further damage to our home was not taken lightly since the other 2 quotes offered no solutions of these issues.
To us these small acts showed us he was a caring, honest roofer with a quality roofing business.
Everything went extremely well.
Mr. Behan was very polite, professional, and explained every step of the process.
He gave us several options with different types of shingles so we knew exactly what we were paying for.
He made recommendations to help us with the decisions.
He started the work on the exact date planned, and stayed on the job until completion.
They started when they said and finished only a little later than anticipated (due to weather conditions and excessive heat).
He was on the job every day with his men.
They placed tarps over our plants and shrubs for protection.
They cleaned up every day, and took all the trash away.
The workers were all very polite.
Jim Behan made absolutely sure that we were happy with the job before sending us his final billing statement.
There were no surprises, no hassles.
J.K. Behan Roofing provides a good value for the money as well as total peace of
mind that the job was done right, will last, and that they will stand by their work if an issue does arise.
There were no surprises, no hassles.
I would highly recommend J.K. Behan Roofing for anyone looking for a
qualified, caring professional, hardworking as is his team of guys.
The result was simply outstanding workmanship.
"It has been a while since I responded to member comments. It is hard to fit everything in. I had previously read this review, it made me feel all of our effort in installing a great roof was noticed and appreciated. The whole crew (we only have one five man crew) knows how much quality means to me and they do the work like it was on their own home. Thanks for the kind review, Jim Behan jk"
"We were delayed on a previous job before we could get to this member, it may have been weather or some wood damage that postponed our arrival. The member was accommodating and we started a bit later than originally thought, we replaced damaged plywood and supporting wood at the eave, installed new shingles. Overall the job came out great, results do matter"
I recieved 3 reasonably similar quotes from area roofers, so my biggest consideration was reputation and quality of work. In addition to the other positive reviews here, Jim had come recommended which heavily swayed my decision. I had a very positive experience with Jim -- he was responsive to any questions I had, and with coordinating with my tenant. In particular, he was sensitive to some time constraints in which the project needed to be completed by.
In addition to completing the project in about a week's time, he was in regular communication, sending updates and photos of the project's progress.
I would highly recommend this company for anyone looking for a roofer.
"we actually do quite a few roofs for out of town owners, either for rentals or for second homes. Some of the paperwork needs to be mailed, but most of it is done via email. With email, text messages, and internet, it is easy to accomplish long distance communication about the details of a re-roof (or repair)"
"this was a difficult tile repair involving a "dead valley" or cricket area below a valley and adjoining a masonry wall. It was a mess when we got there, b-e-a-utiful when we left,"
"Thanks for the kind review, [Member name removed] We do get to work for some nice people along the way. My approach to roofing a home is to do the job as it were my own home. This is not only for my customers benefit, but I get satisfaction in "a job well done". I try to impress this on my guys, that the outcome will follow us, good or bad. I can tell you, they all care about our customers. I only have one crew, 5 men that are all full time employees of J K Behan. They all have families, with 6 kids among them, and depend on me to give them that opportunity to work. I do all the estimates myself, so I take that responsibility seriously. One crew gives me the best control of the end result, and it shows. We do mostly residential, and some commercial work. There are some types of roofing we specialize in: shingles, tile, flat roofs, we do wood shakes, (but not to many of them going on anymore). I have a sheet metal shop to custom fabricate flashings of copper, aluminum, stainless steel, and galvalume. There are some roofs we do not do: TPO's, EPDM's, Polyurethane Foam, condominiums, aluminum structural roofing panels, large commercial work, and we are selective on metal roofing, preferring aluminum standing seam. Some steeper two story roofs (especially in Daytona Beach) are better left for a larger roofing firm. It is best to know your limitations. December 2014 will mark our 35th year in the roofing business. In that time, I feel we set the mark in providing the best VALUE in residential roofing. We provide personal attention to details, we don't cut corners, and do what we say we will. We leave the home as clean or cleaner than when we arrived. We use a high lift truck for tear offs, so no dumpsters are left for the duration of the job. We cover gardens and grounds with tarps, we use a magnet everyday to get any stray nails. We have up to 4 inspections by municipal and independent inspectors on each job. We provide in-progress pictures on a CD along with pertinent material and job related documents. SO, yes, we are the Professional Roofing Contractor. We are not only on Angie's List, but on the BBB with an A+ rating, with the Chamber of Commerce, the Better Business Council, and we have multiple manufacturer's endorsements."
"This job was not difficult but it was very detailed. brick was added after the original construction and had to be reflashed, so the chimney and about six additional areas needed attention. We used .032 aluminum and 2.5 lb lead to put things right. tile was adhered with urethane foam tile adhesive with the eave course also screwed in place with stainless steel screws. I have always tried to install a roof as if it was my own home. The difference IS in the details."
He started the work on the exact date planned, and stayed on the job until completion. They placed tarps over our plants and shrubs for protection. They cleaned up every day, and took all the trash away. The workers were all very polite.
There were no surprises, no hassle.
Mr. Behan checked the problem area and provided us with an estimate the following day. Mr. Behan and his crew started and
finished the work on time and left our premises in excellent condition.
"Tile roof repairs are challenging as there are many different application systems, and not all installations are done correctly from the start. With years of experience and a trained eye, we can usually find and correct the issues on the first attempt. JK"
"This home had 1x12" plank decking. It is not a very good substrate for a shingle roof. Gaps between the boards, cupping and twisting of the boards, knot holes, and rising nails, plague this decking. We always advise customers to cover the 1x12 with plywood. Using 1/2" plywood, making sure the sheets are properly spaced and end on the trusses, makes a great substrate to install a long lasting roof. This customer had his roof installed with our recommendations and will have many trouble free years in this roof. JK"
"We did two flat roofs that had significant standing water. We installed 1/4" per foot tapered insulation,, a three ply modified bitumen roof system, and cement siding adjoining the flat roofs. This will be there for Years! and I believe the mean R-value was approximately R-24, saving money to boot. thanks for the review."
"I want to commend this customer in how he took the time to help where it counted. His older parents were in need of a new roof, he met with me a few times and helped handle all the decisions and paperwork to get the project moving forward. It's nice to see."
"I appreciate the review. I take my work seriously and do the very best I can every day. December will mark our 34th year, into our 35th!"
"We put in the extra effort for all or customers, I want to be known as a Professional Quality Contractor. There are worse things than getting a "B" In the price category. It is tough to make (and Save!) a dollar in the roofing business today. Material costs are going up and up, our profit margins are going down. I am not complaining, believe me, it's nice to have work to do. I have six employees (and me) that depend on us to provide for their families, that means commitment to the cause."
covering over the existing underlayment makes for a finished product of exceptional durability. Other contractors do not propose to provide this and actually try to say that it is not necessary. Don't believe it. When (not if) you get leaks in an existing roof it will often be due to nails that have worked their way out of the underlayment and up through the roofing shingles. This happens because the underlayment is too uneven and flexible. The new layer of plywood eliminates the problem.
Jim and his crew are all professional and conscientious. They pay great attention to detail; insuring that the finished job is first rate.
