"We are A+ Rated with the BBB. We don't pay the BBB, and because of that we have never been "accreddited". I feel bad that the customer is having the issues. I always try to put myself in another's shoes when dealing with these type of situations. I always discuss the replacement of the round registers and boots with the homeowner when looking at the work to be proposed. Most choose not to replace them with no issues. This was discussed with the homeowner prior to the work being done. The price to replace the duct system of only $3200 is proof of that. Replacing the existing round registers and round boots was discussed at the time of the walk through for the proposal. I told the homeowner that this would involve a considerable higher price in additional labor and materials to complete and he would also have to have a plaster repair done around each replaced boot/register and I could offer that option. He chose to stay with the existing round registers. The home has a 3 ton system (installed by another vendor) that is based on manual j load calculation, too large for their 1299 square foot home. I completed a manual j heat load calculation for the home in 2012 that came out to right a 2 tons and slightly more if the rear porch was enclosed per a discussion with the homeowner. Systems that are too large are a major contributing factor to humidity and sweating issues. I feel bad that there are issues. The cost of the job when initially proposed would have been much more if the round registers and boots were replaced and there may have been no issues if the home had a smaller ac system. There is no resolution to this as long as the customer has not wanted to pay for the added value of having the round register boots/registers replaced and the plaster repaired. We are both good honest people buy sadly, I guess this is one of those rare cases where we couldn't meet in the middle and are just going to have to agree to disagree. A first in our 38 years in business."
I had them put a new unit in and added the duct work. I called them back and said I put vents in for a new room over the garage, that we specifically had this new unit re-ducted for. I said I've got 2 in and 1 out in that room and the temperature of that room is still not what it should be. It is hot and not cooling. Isn't there something you can do? And their comment was no, it is what it is.
I thought they would try to find out why with all this new duct work in this room wasn't cooling like it should, but they didn't. If I hire somebody, and at least they try to find a solution to my problem, then I give them credit for trying. These guys didn't even try.
"Thank you for the great review. It is always nice to be recognized for the way we do our job and a customer that understands how hard it is to provide this type of service consistently for over 30 years. We don't solicit our customers for reviews like most of the companies with hundreds of reviews which makes us appreciate each review a little more. Thank you for trusting Deck-Aire year after year."
"Thank you for the great review. We greatly appreciate your A rating for the services we provided. I see you gave us a B on price which is occasionally where we get a B grade as it is difficult to provide low price and top quality at the same time. We do however find that when you compare us apples to apple with our competition we are usually a litte lower in price because of our extremely low overhead and the fact that we do not have commissioned sales people like many of our competitors. Thank you again for using Deck-Aire and The awesome "A" rating."
OK, no Freon R22 needed. Seemed to be ready to go for the Summer of 2014
This lasted until approx. October of 2014, at which time our A/C stopped cooling properly.
Another call to Deck Aire resulted in quite a large bill for Freon and Labor,
NOTE": I did NOT hire Deck Aire in October THROUGH Angie's List.
"Thank you for the review. We always strive for an A rating with our customers. Sometimes this is difficult when you are dealing with an older system. Repairs on an older system like yours are usually a band-aid. We gave you a price 2 years ago to change the system as we feared that your system was headed for repeat repairs. We always ask you to put yourself in our shoes when you are upset about having to repair an older system. We must as a business charge for the repairs to these systems as there is no guarantee that an older system will not fail again. Our government has driven the cost of refrigerant up to the point that putting in a freon is no longer a minimal expense. I don't mind you being upset about the cost of repairs as I am never exited about paying for repairs on anything no matter how old it is. When you are finally ready ro replace that system please let me know and I can make sure we take into account the repair dollars you have spent.Thank you again."
"Awesome.... Thank you for the awesome words about our team."
"Thank you for the great review. you are correct. Chuck is awesome. He is a great technician in tune with our no pressure methods. We will always let you know if you should consider getting a quote on a new system but will do our best to get your existing system up and running if you choose to do that. Thank you again for the review and for trusting Deck-Aire."
"Thank you for the review. We always appreciate customers who recognize us for our A rated service which we have been providing for over 30 years. We look forward to hearing from you again."
After researching different brands, my top choices were Trane and American Standard, which are owned by the same parent company and share common components. These brands had top ratings for reliability on Consumer Reports. I also wanted a 2-stage compressor for the main system for improved humidity control and temperature regulation.
I used Angies List to identify several installation companies with good ratings, and received quotes from 3 vendors. I selected Deckaire for several reasons:
Value: I wanted a premium brand and knew it would have greater cost. Deckaire?s proposal provided better equipment for lower prices compared to the other vendors. I did a side-by-side comparison with the other vendors and Deckaire had them beat. Deckaire?s quote was 30% less than one of the other vendors!
Thoroughness: The owner of Deckaire, Dave Decker, spent an hour inspecting my home before providing the quote. He even inspected the ductwork in the attic on a hot afternoon in July. His quote was very detailed and identified specific model numbers and installation details. He listened to my requirements and provided a menu of options so I could compare features vs costs. I had confidence in the proposal.
Installation for the 2 heat pump systems required 2 days. It was a complete replacement of the existing systems that included the condenser, air handler, thermostat, copper lines, control lines and drain lines (everything except ductwork). The main air handler
was larger than the existing unit and required carpentry work to fit. They also reconfigured the main duct distribution box to improve circulation.
The installation team was courteous and professional, and they accommodated some special requests. For example, I had previous issues (leaks) with the copper lines in the underground conduit and requested re-routing the new copper lines through the attic. No problem. They also installed a paintable cover over the copper lines running up the exterior wall. The team worked into the early evening on each day to ensure we had a functional systems for nighttime.
This was a big investment and I feel Deckaire provided great value. I will continue to us Deckaire for future services.
"WOW....What can I say except thank you! Thank you for allowing us the privilege of installing your systems and for the wonderful words about our team here at Deck-Aire. We rely on word of mouth as our advertising and feel that if we do our job properly you will feel inspired to tell others about us. Thank you again for your referrals and for your continued relationship with Deck-Aire."
They were very pleasant. Prompt. Efficient.
