All in all, I would highly recommend Alternative to anyone looking for a top-notch, reputable, ethical and reasonably priced auto service shop.
My husband is the one who normally deals with auto repairs, so unfortunately I can't offer detailed examples of the service we've received. What I can say for sure is that the price is always reasonable, estimates are accurate, the work is done as promised, and the mechanics are trustworthy and do a thorough job of checking things out. They will not raise undue concern or urge you to pay for extra repairs "right away," but will let you know if they see any work that you may need to think about in the near future. They will also let you know if a certain repair isn't needed or may not be worth fixing, so you can make good decisions about what repairs to have done (or NOT to have done!) and when. This is very helpful information when trying to keep an older car running as long and as cheaply as possible.
As a woman, I am always wary of those auto repair places that pick up on my lack of automotive knowledge and try to convince me that some part is "just about to blow" and I need to take care of it NOW to avoid calamity. At Alternative they do not do that, period. I've taken my car in to other shops and received dire news (brakes are about to give out, for example, and I could have a terrible crash any day!) then taken the car in to Howard and his opinion was that they'd last at least another year or so; in that example, as it turned out, I got about two years' more wear before I had to replace the brakes. Yes, I took it to Alternative to do the work.

Howard is a very personable guy, and he's been my mechanic for 12+ years. He's honest, knowledgeable, and easy to deal with. Previous tasks, professionally performed, range from a simple oil change, to brakes, to rebuilding a transmission in my daughter's car, and he stands behind his work! I highly recommend him!!

This is not the only time we have used Alternative Automotive. Our son is a college student in Melborne Florida. He has an older vehicle 1991 Jetta. Howard at Alternative Automotive was recommeded through a mutual friend residing in Melborne. Being a parent 1300 miles away from our son Howard ALWAYS gives our son's vehicle top service and I never worry that he is over charging. This dealer is very reliable and honest. He takes care of our child as well as the vehicle. I always receive a call prior to any work being done and it is always an immediate response to our needs. I am so relieved to have found such and honest and efficent shop with wonderful owners. I proudly recommend this shop to any person searching for honest, top quality work. I also recommend this shop for peace of mind to any parent who is concerned with the reliablity of their childs transportation safety. This is a top notch automotive repair shop!
