He was terrible. He actually makes good cabinets, but his attitude was terrible. He was awful and was the only person from Angie's List I have not been happy with. He just did a whole bunch of remodeling and they just finished. Actually today was their last day. He knew how to make cabinets, but even his partner...he dropped a hammer on my marble windowsill and cracked it. Then they laughed about it. I told them they did not know how to happen professionally because no one would want that to happen. I asked them to use a spacer when they built my bath because they were not leaving consistent spaces between each board. His partner threw the crowbar across my plastic wood and scratched it because I asked them to do it right. Then they ripped off two boards because I was watching them to make sure they were doing it right. Each piece of wood was $40. These two men should not be working for people. They were like grown up people with a child's mind. Their price was fair. They told me they would work from 8 until 4 or 5 each day but they did not show up until 10 or 11 and then they left at 3. Everything took really long. It was a nightmare. He did not finish my dock, my cabinets and there is a broken window sill. The ceiling was not done either. I had to get somebody to actually finish everything. He was a nightmare.
After meeting with Jim and John, they agreed that they would work from 9-5 every day and I would pay them weekly. They showed up at 10 and left around 3:30 most days. (I was paying them by the day.) It started out pretty well. They both worked the first week and finished the ceiling. It looks really nice. However, the crown molding and the baseboards are still two different sizes. I'm not sure why. No explanation. I think they ran out of the correct size wood and used what was left. While installing the crown molding, John dropped a tool on my marble window seal and broke it. They laughed and really resented this... If I was working inside their house, they would not appreciate me laughing if I broke their window seal. I was not upset about the broken window seal, I was angry about their attitude after it happened. The deck was next. I drew out a plan of what I wanted. He agreed that he could build it. As John was installing the composite deck boards ($60.00 each) he decided to just "eyeball" the spacing instead of using the spacers I had requested. I was upset, because the spaces in between the boards were not even when he installed the boards. I insisted they remove two uneven boards and he tossed the crowbar across the composite boards and made a four foot scratch because he was mad. By the way, he never finished the deck. I hired these guys and trusted them to do their best and high quality work. After this episode, I felt like I had to watch them. I didn't want them to have to redo any more work. Communication was not good as they assumed I wanted things done a certain way without asking me and Jim had to rebuild a cabinet. Since I was paying a lot of money for a custom cabinet builder, I expected that we would design it together and agree on a design. After all, he had been in business 18 years! Part of the cabinet was done correctly. The bottom looked very nice. Accept, he never completed the top cabinet. The second side was "his design". He resented me inspecting their work before paying them and for wanting to be at home when they worked on my property. Honestly, I feel like I was fooled. He promised me high quality work, good work ethics, and assured me I would be very happy when he left. Long story short- he never finished the deck, cabinet, or trim. The ceiling is beautiful. Save yourself a LOT of grief- don't hire them. His words mean nothing. He does not do what he promises. These guys have a lot of woodworking experience-that's true, but they never learned what honesty meant. They will lie to your face.
"I think there must be a mistake here because I have never been to San Antonio and I don't recognize this persons name."
