IUnfortunately, the fence wobbles when pushed with just one finger! When I push on one end of the fence with one finger, the entire line of fence is sent into into a waving motion. I asked that the company not complete the remainder of the fence until the vinyl part was correctly installed. I asked that the company re install the post to correct the wobbling./waving.
Initially, the owner never contacted me. I left a message on voice mail and sent emails to George Tyll, their representative. Instead, he sent a couple of installers in mid January. My husband and I were told that this is the way all of their fences are. However, they did add additional cement to three posts. This did not solve the problem.
On February 6, 2012, George Tyll sent me an email with another proposal made by the owner, Jim Serafine. Classic Fence proposed to to come out Wednesday (Feb 8) to pour about four feet of wet cement into each post. This would cover three feet in the ground and a foot out of the ground. They would mix the cement in a wheel barrow and use a funnel! I told them to wait. I needed time to research the issue.
On Monday, Feb 13, 2012, I spoke with Elite Vinyl Products, Inc--the manufacturer of the fence that Classic installed in our yard. The representative said that NOTHING should be poured into the posts because that could break the posts.
After looking on Angie?s List and in the monthly magazine, I found Parmont Fencing ---one of most highly rated fence companies in the area on Angie?s List. At my request, Paramont Fencing inspected the fence on Thursday afternoon February 9. Paramont said that the fence does indeed wooble too much. Paramont Fencing said that adding the cement in the hollowed out posts will not solve the problem---and would cause problems for the posts. Also, he said the fence was out of line.
On Tuesday, February 14, 2012, Jim Serafine (the owner of Classic) and George Tyll viewed the fence. Jim said that the wobbling was not a problem. He said all of their fences wobble like ours. He denied proposing that he funnel 4 feet of cement into each of the posts. We told him that this proposal was in email. Also, he said that all the Better Business Bureau required is that he come out and make an effort.
Since the fence wobbles and is not any use to us, we asked Jim Serafine to remove the fence and refund our $4,100 deposit. JimSerafine told us (on Feb 14th) it was not that easy because he had a lot of costs wrapped up in this fence. Jim Serafine said he had ordered the fence especially for our job. He said that we were responsible for all of his costs. However, we did not purchase the fence. We purchased an installation of a fence. We asked Classic to professionally install a fence on our property. Implicit in our agreement was that the fence would be installed correctly. We are not responsible for any materials that Classic Fence ordered and used. The materials that they have left on our property belong to Classic Fence. We have not accepted their installation of the fence. Therefore, we have not accepted delivery of any materials Classic Fence chose to use.
We want Classic Fence to remove their vinyl fence from our property and refund the $4,100 deposit. It is apparent to us that either Classic Fence does not know how to install the fence or Classic does not have our best interest at heart.
