Ceramic Tile Service
$340

We wanted a tile which would support a slate pool table without letting it sink and lose level.  To the extent of recommending and selling the product they did fine.  The estimator came to our house, looked over the job and gave us an estimate.  I inquired why the labor was so high and he explained that the installer would have to roll back about half the rooms carpet, measure and lay a four by three area if tile then cut out the tiled area and install the carpet.  This would involve stretching the existing carpet back into place.  The Invoice even lists stretching the carpet.  With all that involved we agreed to the estimated cost.

The installer and his assistant arrived late and after looking at the job and discussing it with us it was decided that all he really needed to do was cut out where the legs would go and install six square foot of tile.  This was what we originally wanted done.  The installer worked and his trainee (what they said) stood around and watched and occasionally went to the truck to get tools.  Never did he actually do work.  After they worked about 50 minutes they said they had to leave but that they would be back in about an hour.  In slightly more than an hour they returned and finished the job in about 45 minutes.

When it came time to pay the bill I inquired why the labor was still at the estimated level when they actually worked less than 2 hours and we were told that it would take all morning.  The installer did not care and said the full amount was due.  We paid the full amount but I asked that the owner call me if he wanted to do any more business with us.  It has now been 2 months and no return call has been made.

In all fairness we are happy with the quality of the work, it is just the price of the install we are unhappy with and the fact that the owner does not seem to feel it is important to discuss service questions or problems with the customer. Just to note, the actual labor costs worked out to approximately 90 dollars per hour, high for flooring install and also I also called the store and asked that Mr. LePage call me.
