"A call was placed to our company from this homeowner on behalf of herself and two neighbors. The homeowner requested a free estimate to run new natural gas piping for future appliances. It should be noted that the gas company does not have any lines to the homes in question, let alone any idea of where meters would be placed in order to be used as a starting point for any estimate to be based on. Despite this, our company agreed to look at the homes as a courtesy and at no charge to the homeowners. After several calls from this homeowner to arrange a convenient time for her neighbors, a date and time was agreed upon. Our estimator arrived at the exactly at the time scheduled (2:00 pm, On Friday, July 20th) and met with this homeowner, reviewing possible options for a new system. Upon leaving, the homeowner was asked to allow approximately a week to allow for a typed estimate to be sent via e-mail. Upon leaving her property, the estimator visited the adjoining property. The owner was not home. After being reached on the phone, the estimator was told that the homeowner had not made any arrangements with him to be home. A visit to the third neighbor was made and after some discussion, he was asked to allow the same amount of time for a typed estimate to be submitted. The following week, the homeowner contacted our office (more than once), inquiring about the estimate and was told that it would be sent in the time frame mentioned by the estimator during the site visit. A detailed, two part estimate was submitted by our estimator and received via e-mail by the homeowner on the morning of July 31st (less than 7 business days from the site visit). A follow-up call to the homeowner was made afterward. At that time a request was made by the homeowner for yet another option to be added to this estimate. This was completed and submitted in a revised estimate that the owner received via e-mail within hours of that request. A follow-up call was placed to the owner after a week had passed to make sure there were no other questions regarding the estimate. At that time, the subject of this terrible review was discussed. The response was that she had waited too long for a free estimate. When reminded that the estimate was sent during the time frame promised, the homeowner then stated that the estimate costs were "exorbitant". We again explained the costs associated the the labor, materials, inspection tests, etc. that were associated with projects such as these and thanked her for taking the time to review her experience and for the opportunity to submit an estimate. In closing, our company: *Agreed to visit three properties for free, despite the completely speculative nature of a future project *Set a time for this free visit that was convenient for all three parties. *Arrived precisely at the time promised. *Treated the homeowner respectfully and courteously during this visit. *Submitted a fully comprehensive estimate within the time frame promised. *Followed up with a revised estimate within hours of the homeowners request. *Followed up a week later to see if any additional information was needed."
