iWe consulted with them regarding plant selection, hoping to find the right fit to obscure a compromised view. They referred us to a tree company capable of both procuring and installing the best trees. We described a 10-year-old water retention issue in our yard which had not been sufficiently addressed in that period of time. Rather than being confined to repairing the existing system, they recommended repairing the original system and making it more extensive. They did not actually carry the materials for this project, so it was not a salespitch; rather, they sought to help rectify the problem so plants would survive and thrive for another decade and beyond.
They were familiar with the established neighborhood where I home was built, and anticipated the type of soil mitigation necessary, but requested a soil sample before selling us the chemical products. We further described observations of weeds and dead spots, and they requested we bring in weed samples and pictures of the spots. They provided the analysis free of charge, and recommended spreading gypsum to replenish the phosphate that had been drained from our Lakeland yard and encourage better drainage in the soil. The ph was 6 and is good for weeds, so dolamite should be spread to reduce the acidity slightly and help our St. Augustine grass. Weed and insect killers were suggested to manage the problems we'd already observed and fertilizer to encourage stronger grass, but not until later in the fall when temperatures are consistently below 90 degrees.
