My large screen TV was dark and flickering on one side after it had been on for about 20 minutes.  When I went to purchase a new TV the salesman told me that I had another year guarantee since I had charged the purchase on my American Express card.  AmEx told me to get a estimate of what it would cost to repair the set and send it to them and they would pay for the cost of the estimate and then tell me what to do about it. I didn't know anyone to use (didn't belong to Angie's list then) and I had heard from some people  that the shop at this location was a good repair shop and it was also the closest TV repair shop to my home. I went to this location on Feb 2nd and found that this shop had moved from Military Trail to Federal Hwy. During my dealings with him (Richie) I think I found out that he's not even the same person running the shop.  In any event I didn't know it at the time.  Richie took my TV on Feb 3rd.  He diagnosed the  problem and gave me an estimate which I sent to AmEx...they paid the estimate to me and Richie was to repair the TV. He returned it to me on Mar 2nd and I paid him.  Twenty  minutes after he left the screen became dark and  flickering on the same side...it was just as it was when he had taken it in Feb.



I called him on Mar 4th and told him it wasn't repaired he said he would come to pick it up...Every few days when I called him to find out when he'd pick it up it was a different story....he couldn't reach the friend to help him take it off the wall, his friend had flu, he'll come tomorrow -he finally picked it up on April 8th.  I called April 29th, May 14th etc -I was going away from the end of May till mid June so I told him to come then...Again he was going to bring it, when he didn't come I called again...he couldn't reach the guy he'll call me back, he'll be there tomorrow, etc.etc.  Finally June 23rd he brought it back and after 20 minutes it was just like before.  I called him on the 24th to come to my house and stay to watch it.  He didn't return calls, then he was sick, he finally came July 2nd.   He told me to have AmEx call him (which they usually won't do but they  made an exception and called him)  I have no idea what he said to them but they  told me to call in another repair service and send the estimate to them.  This time I got smart.  I called Samsung (it was a Samsung TV) and asked for the name of an authorized repair place.  They gave me the name of a repair place...the technician came in 2 days, gave me a repair price but said for that price I should use the repair  money sent to me by AmEx toward a new TV.  In 3 days I had the money from AmEx and what had dragged on from Feb to Aug was settled in  days.



I urge everyone to purchase with AmEx...their guarantee can't be beat!!
