In late July 2010 we noticed that water was soaking the carpet in the walk-in closet adjacent to our master bathroom shower. Eventually it was determined that hairline cracks in shower pan were the cause of the problem. In order to replace the shower pan, the entire shower had to be dismantled. Once it was dismantled the repairman determined that the original shower pan had been improperly installed--there was insufficient support beneath it--and thus it cracked. (He has photos.) Dismantling the shower caused a further problem: one of the cultured marble panels broke. The reason it broke was, again, improper installation. It had been affixed with liquid nails. (The repairman asked Bailey Industries why they used liquid nails since in his experience that was unusual. They responded that that?s how they always do it. He then asked how they remove the panels to fix a problem. The response, ?We don?t?.) Since all of the original work had been done by Bailey?s when the house was built, a panel of the original marble was brought to them for the purpose of manufacturing a MATCHING replacement panel. The repairman was assured that the pattern was familiar and could be matched. BUT IT DOESN?T MATCH! Neither the background color nor the pattern is the same. If it were impossible to match the original, we should have been so informed at the outset. The shower was reassembled while we were out of town. Upon our return on Sept. 26, 2010 we noticed immediately that the new marble panel did not match the original in either background color or pattern. Both the repairman and I have had numerous contacts with the company. They refuse to accept any responsibility. The expense and disruption to our lives was not limited to the bathroom. The carpet in the walk in closet, as well as a six foot section of California closet, had to be replaced--all as a result of an improperly installed shower pan. . . Total cost: almost $5,000!
Description of Work: Provided cultured marble panel which didn't match the broken one in either pattern or color.
