Payless Blinds

We contacted Payless Blinds to purchase and install blinds/shades on six windows in our home.  During my initial conversation with Luis I told him we were interested in faux wooden blinds for three windows and roman shades on the other three.  Luis advised me that he could not do roman shades and had other options available for us.

When he arrived at our home we explained to him exactly what we were looking for.  The three bedrooms would have faux wood blinds, and the other three would have a shade that covered only the bottom half of the window.  We were very specific with this request.  Bottom half of window covered by shade and the upper portion not covered, leaving upper half of window exposed allowing light to enter.  This particular request was mentioned many times by both of us during his consultation and he acknowledged it by saying that we needed to make sure to pull the shade up when washing dishes so we would not splash water on the fabric.

Our knowledge of these products is very limited.  During his visit I asked for a bottom up shade instead of a top down.  Even though I used the incorrect term, I would have hoped that he would have corrected me.  With his expertise and familiarity of his products I would have thought he would have corrected me by explaining the difference between top/down-bottom/up shades.  At the least when we were asking him for a shade that only covered the bottom half of the window leaving the upper half exposed, he would have known what we were asking for.

Two weeks later he was at our home to install the blinds/shades.  He installed the kitchen shade and then showed me how it operated.  I responded by saying that it was upside down and we wanted it mounted on the bottom so that the shade only covered the lower half of the window.  He responded by stating that these shades can only be installed at the top of the window and it rolls bottom up.  At the end of his installation process I wrote him a check for the full amount (maybe another mistake).

After a subsequent phone conversation he offered to install honeycomb cellular shades for an additional $458.10.  He offered us a partial credit on our original purchase if we purchased the cellular shades from Payless Blinds.  We declined that offer and instead asked for half the cost of the original shades returned to us.  We have yet to receive a response from him and I doubt that we will.

Again, I accept full responsibility for using the incorrect phrase when describing the type of shade we wanted.  At the same time Luis needs to accept responsibility for his error.  Not explaining to us that what he was selling us would cover the entire window when down and not just the lower half of the window.  We have since gone to Lowes to purchase the three top/down shades we initially wanted.  The interesting thing is that when I first went into Lowes and asked for a shade that only covers the bottom half of the window, the sales representative went directly to a display and showed me exactly what we were looking for.  Funny how Lowes knew what we were asking for and Payless Blinds did not.
