Very kind, efficient, and quick. Highly recommend. Justin is knowledgeable, friendly -and Don in the office helped me out so much too. They will try to work with you financially (within reason) as well. I will never call a big commission-based company again. These guys are who to call. Very honest folks. AAA+++ !!!?

I was in Gainesville and was able to pick up the part he needed so he could fix it right away - saved him a trip to Gainesville and me from waiting another day for A/C in August.

The ductwork is in the crawl space underneath our historic house -- so not easy or pleasant to get to.  The ducts were in bad shape, and it was clear that they needed replacing.

The first person from Bertie who did an estimate on the job explained in some detail that ducting technology and even regulations had changed a lot since our forced air system was first put in, and so the system would have to be radically reconfigured. Fair enough: the forced air system was installed in the 1970s as a retrofit to a house with no AC and radiators for heat.  But what he came up with was a plan that would have entailed completely remodeling (and destroying the character of) our old house: dropping soffits from the ceilings and running the ductwork through them!  Needless to say, we said no to this. Fortunately, however, he consulted with his colleagues and brought in someone who had experience with older homes. This person ultimately came up with a much more reasonable plan, which was basically to replace the ductwork in the crawlspace and make adjustments around the edges, to the size of some of the ducts, the location of returns, etc.  We wound up paying more for labor because of the physical difficulty of the installation in our crawlspace, but at least we got a solution that was appropriate for our house. The installation took a long time (a week, plus), but we're very pleased with the final result: good heat and AC pressure in every room.

It does seem like computer modeling and energy conservation regulations have changed quite a bit how ductwork jobs are done, and it takes expertise to make this work with an older home. Bertie does have a guy who can make this happen.  So my recommendation is that you ask for him from the start.

During my regular annual service with another company, they found my refrigerant coils in the air handler were leaking and needed replacement. The estimate was high and I was told that the unit was no longer under warranty (10 yr warranty and unit is 6.5 yrs). I told them I would contact the manufacturer (Goodman) to get the problem solved (no luck as of yet). In the meantime, the A/C ran out of freon on a hot Saturday (of course). I decided to try another service company for a better price and better service. Found Mike Bertie on Angie's List and called on Monday morning. Described the problem to Mike and, although very busy, he said he would make me his last call of the day. Sure enough, he came just before 8 pm and got the info he needed to order the parts. Since it was so hot (spring heat wave) I talked with him about filling the system with freon and take my chances that not too much would be lost before he could return to install the new coils. He agreed, and by flashlight filled the system - it was dead empty. Later that week the part came in and we scheduled the job for Monday. His crew arrived early that day and did a very professional installation of the new parts. Luckily, I lost no freon in the interim and my A/C was again working fine.
Although the repair cost was not cheap, Mike easily saved me hundreds of dollars and I am confident both he and his crew are professional and know their stuff. My experience is that he goes 'above and beyond' what it takes to get the job done. I have no such confidence in the Goodman company. I am still pursuing getting warranty reimbursement for the parts.

I was going to leave him a message on his business phone on Sunday evening so he would call me first thing in the morning. My A/C was running non-stop and the temperature kept going up. He called me back that night, told me he had a full day, but would come in the afternoon the next day as soon as he could. In the morning he called and said one of his jobs had cancelled, could he come then. I was pleased. He opened the unit and measured the Freon and told me it was low. He also showed me where half of my coils had been shorted out. My A/C unit is 8.5 years old and had to be recharged at around 3 years while under warranty and at that time I was told there might be a tiny leak. Mike told me the same thing, but I opted to have him recharge it and we will watch it. He also fixed the shorted out wire so all my coils work. He was pleasant and efficient. I will definitely use him in the future and refer him to others.

The service call was quick and easy. Mike explained everything while he worked. The price for the call and the charge for the parts are very reasonable. In both service calls he checked the unit, diagnosed the problem, and fixed it promptly. He is a pleasant hard-working young who has a great career ahead of him.
