UPDATE for review 3/15/16:
A LIEN WAS PUT ON OUR PROPERTY BY THE ELECTRICIANS THEY SUB-CONTRACTED, even though Precision's contract and owner says they will hire and PAY all contractors directly. Don't believe that, as per FL law, if anyone works on your home, you owe money, so the contract and owner's word doesn't matter. So we paid the electricians directly $3711 to get the lien off. Jess, nor anyone from his company, cared at all about the lien and the impact that would have on us.
SINCE THEN, WE HAVE HAD MORE COSTS TO CLEAN UP WHAT WAS DONE POORLY. We've been finishing up renovations and run into varied issues, like (1) holes in drywall not lined up with light plate and plug switches and outlets (gaps on side when installed). (2) electricians having to cut holes the drywall walls in bathroom because when they drywalled, they just shoved the wires for the vanity lighting in the wall and didn't mark where it wiring was (3) same with a recessed LED light in ceiling above tub (it had just been drywalled over without marking where it would be), AND (4) they had put the drywall up on the hall wall and then cut the outlet out after, and sawed right into the outlet plate (literally cut in hole where you would plug in plug, so we had to pay an electrician to come check it and change it, now need to pay a dry wall guy to come back to deal with gap on top of plate.
We have in writing from the owner Jess credit due... for example, $99 owed for the garbage disposal (which was initially new and his guy threw away), but we have not received a check. Jess did send a message asking us to sign something saying we would not take them to arbitration, if he gave us the $99! And we are still paying for these things to be cleaned up and done right.
Chip who works for Jess led us to believe in the first meeting that we would walk away with every plate cover straight and all the work done in a quality way. So NOT our experience and they didn't even get into so many pieces of this renovation, due to timeline dragging and our concerns about quality work not being addressed.
We wanted to give Jess benefit of the doubt, as he turned this project over to Chip his employee, but leaving a mess like this for customers, and not paying back money that he even agrees in writing is owed, is just not professional.
wrote end of 2015....
The owner Jess seems to want to do quality work, as represented by what is written on his website, and he seems like someone who knows, cares about quality and you can trust. But this project, he turned over almost fully to a man who works for him, who did not follow through on many things, and the work he did do was completed slowly and often details not paid attention to, which caused mistakes or delayed the timeline (can write examples later if asked). This person, on Precision's behalf, did little physical work himself (except a few minor things) and hired sub-contractors, most of which they hadn't worked with. Even as some of the work started, we started to voice concerns about the quality/timeline of the work, and we were sort of put off, with Precision's man saying he had experience we should trust, we should trust going slowly step by step. Some work was done very well (Charles their carpenter was excellent), and electricians, and one of the drywall guys, but the other one did not do great work, some of which still needs to be completed properly. Mostly, the work was not done, as for days this Precision man was searching for people to do it, and saying it was a very busy time for contractors, etc. That might be all true, but we were under the impression that they had their own people, and since committed to the project that they had sorted this before they agreed to do the work with us. We were naive and signed a contract with the TBD in timeline space, then trusted through various conversations/meetings with this man (easy going, seemed a good communicator, talked like he had experience), that we were moving within the timeline. The timeline just carried on and on and one, to the point we rearranged our flooring installation (which was set up with another company already scheduled, from day 1 of hiring Precision. This was from 11/16, to 11/21, to 11/24 then 11/25, then Precision's man called the flooring company to rebook for 12/18 (texting me that it was sorted, I had to call flooring company to get that date)). In the meantime, we lost two sets of renters on our current home (both willing to pay $3950/month rent). Plus, we have taken on many additional costs to get the work done.
We will not work with them again, but if you consider it, I would make sure Jess is in charge, and get a timeline written into the contract, where if they didn't meet it within some reasonable time, they would take a % off the final bill. I would make sure they have their regular people lined up (assuming they have them, might be worth getting recommendations from past clients for those specific people), before you sign, and that you have a schedule in hand with dates on it (not number of days) and make them accountable every step of the way for the work. It cost us so much stress, time and money and effort to get this done, and we hired a General Contractor, thinking it was their job to complete the work, but it just didn't get done and dragged on. We are still negotiating with them, and they are asking for more money we don't feel is fair that we pay, which is just the worst situation to be in when all we want to do is forget about our experience with this company forever. They haven't paid the electrician they hired despite this clause in contract: ?4. Contractor may at its discretion engage sub-contractors to perform work hereunder, provided Contractor shall fully pay said sub-contractor and in all instances remain responsible for the proper completion of this Contract.? The electrician's company called us this past Friday to say they are putting a lien on our home Monday, if we don't pay. They are just horrible to put us in this situation, or to do this to anyone who trusts you to do work. They seem like a good company, but sadly it was too good to be true, and lots of nice content on their website and smooth talking with little action. So, we write all this so no one else ends up hiring them and losing out, or having to deal with this stress. It's sad as I think they had the potential to do an amazing job and get it done, but the ball was just dropped on this by the man working with Jess. They convinced us to knock out our whole kitchen, that they could handle all the other work, and they knew our timeline from within the first 15 minutes of our first meeting at the end of October. There were not any big issues (like mold or termites, etc to delay the project), so that was not the issue. The whole thing is just incongruent and really not what we expected given the values on their website. It is a horrible situation to be in, when you put your trust and money into a company and hire them to work with you on your home.
