I called Fitch Dix around 9 AM, requesting repair of an apparent broken pipe in my lawn irrigation system. He said he could be there by 1 PM and showed up on time. I was afraid that the job might be especially challenging because the large volume of water was appearing close to the base of a large sabal palm. Within 45 minutes the repair was complete and he told me that the fee would be $80. A couple of months ago I had to call him because fence installers had damaged another irrigation pipe, part of which was surrounded by a post’s concrete base. The repair was completed within an hour and a half. I felt that his requested fee of $199 was too low. Despite his protests, I wrote him a check for $249. Throughout my (3) contacts with him, Fitch’s manner was always very relaxed and cordial. I wish he was a neighbor of mine. Should I have other irrigation system problems, of course, he will be the one I call. He’s a really fine human being.
