Water Softener Service
UDI, a Florida based company with offices in Georgia as well, has recently registered witht the NC Secretary of State to do business in NC. Accrodingly they have been sending agents door to door to sell their services.
A woman came to my door dressed in my opinion like a utility worker. When I answered she identified herself as being with UDI and without explaining who this company was and what they do, took out pad and started asking me questions, like how many people live here, do we use filtered water, were we the homeowners, do we have pets etc. She tried to enter my house by coming across my doorstep without being invited- I kept her on the porch. She acted as if she was some utility official. She claimed that they were testing the water of everyone in the neighborhood and implied that there was something going on with our water.
When she told me she was from Florida, I knew something was up. I asked her if UDI had been contracted by the city or county to test water and she admitted they had not and they were an independent entity. She did not volunteer this info, I had to ask it. I then figured out that this was a sales pitch to get me to get products/services that I don't need. The county provides our water and if there is a problem, they would alert you in a proper fashion ahead of time, not just send someone door to door, unannounced. I promptly told her I was not interested and  asked her to leave.
I later contacted the county utility services who advised that many of these water purficatiion companies were going door to door to try to sell you unnecessary services. They test your water and miracuously there is something wrong with it which of course requires their expensive equipment to fix it.  If there is a quality  control problem with your water, your first step should be to contact your local utility company. If it is just a matter of taste, there are of course filters you can use on your faucet, fridge, or water pitcher to improve the taste. You do not need UDI.
If you are interested in their products, do your research, ask the agent to leave info for you to review and contact  them at your own leisure. (A check of the internet shows mixed reviews as to whether their products work, so do your homework) Don't let these agents smooth talk you into signing up for something on the spot. It is never a good idea to buy something door to door unless you are buying cookies from your local Girl Scout troop IMHO.
