Appliance Repair
$300
They offered me a warranty but said it was around $300. IT was less expensive than going through the manufacture to fix it. I inquired with three different people regarding my refrigerator repair. I spent half a week on the phone with hem, non stop everyday. As soon as they opened I would be on the phone for hours. Everyday for over a month I was on the phonewith them until they closed. They tell me they would call me back and they didn't and parts were suppose to come and they didn't, things were on back order. I could call LG they said it wasn't on back order but Sears told me it was. I ended up calling Sears in Detroit and they didn't show it on back order. The right side didn't know what the left side was doing. Sears was ordering their parts from a third party. That same part was not on back order in the central time zone. Maybe LG is not a big of deal there than on the Eastern time zone. It was a fiasco. I had to call the president a couple times. They sent the wrong part, they couldn't make an appointment until the part got there. The condenser was still under warranty and told me since it was under warranty they can offer me a warranty for $300 on the refrigerator for the next two years and if we cant fix it then we will replace your refrigerator. After I agreed to buy it they told me I did not qualify for the replacement. I told them they were on a recorded line but they weren't interested in listening to that. Then they offered me $500 towards a new refrigerator. But since I paid $300 for the warranty that was only $200 towards a $3000 refrigerator. They were using knock off parts. LG said they would use only LG parts. The only way I got anywhere was by talking to everybody. Sears was making it sound like they were getting the parts through LG but they weren't. They were making their customers wait for months because they were getting their parts from some third party somewhere and smudging LG's name. They were bad mouthing LG. Sears was saying it was on back order, but then it would be at my house the next day. I needed three parts and they were under two different orders. Then there was a third order after I thought I had all the parts. The third part happen to be on the guys truck because they have no way of tracking what is a transferable part. Some parts are interchangeable, LG knows this, but the people you talk to at Sears have no clue what parts are interchangeable. So you are waiting for a back order part because those parts are no longer being made because it's been upgraded but Sears is not smart enough to know that. It was a total fiasco. I do not recommend Sears. Takes them a week to get someone to even come look at it then another two-three weeks to come back out and fix it. Then you have to wait for parts for them to make that appointment. It was horrible. The system was stupid and horrible. They were not truthful, they were not up font. They would not call you back. They came to my house at least six times. It's not surprising they are going out of business. At one time I think they had a reputable name with the Kenmore brand, but I think what the company stands for has disappeared. They do not care about supporting the customer. They only care about money, the new American way. After they fixed it for the second time it still wasn't getting cold enough to keep things from spoiling. I got the wrong part and they said the right part would come and told me to hold on to it because I would need it sometime. Then he cancelled the part and it never comes and the refrigerator is still not cooling. They never let me know and had to reorder and had to wait for the part then make the appointment. That's why it dragged so long to get it fixed. It was a long drawn out thing, it was horrible. I did not have to pay for the parts only because I had bought the warranty. The first time they fixed it and they put a crimp in the line so the Freon was not going through the line and that's why nothing was cooling. Then they came back to fix the very same line again and that had jammed up the condenser. Then they had to replace other parts. I do not know if I didn't' have the warranty if they would have charged me a trip charge every time they came out. The people were nice enough when they got here but they rush in and out. They cant wait around to see if they refrigerator is really cooling. I was playing phone tag, they were not good at returning phone calls.

They did not complete the job as I turned the truck away when they delivered what I thought was going to be foam insulation but instead brought me fiberglass insulation of the cheapest grade, R19 that you would put in the walls not a South Florida hot attic! Then I had to call our lawyers as they charged my husband's Sears credit card at an inflated charge for removal of 36 year old insulation. They would not allow me to pay the subcontractor direclty who I had gotten a price to remove the insulation directly from their company? Because they were under contract with Sears Home Pro they could not allow me to pay them directly.
Sears Home Pro with intent overcharged my husband's card and had me sign on an I Pad a fraudulent contract for a roof repair because they don't do attic insulation and their web site "Shop Your Way" with the point structure for using your Sears card states so. Click on this link if you don't believe me? http://www.shopyourway.com/questions/1007929
They took advantage of my husband, a Senior Citizen and myself your their own greed. We are still on the hook with the Sears Credit card charge as they are adament they won't credit us the difference for the removal of the insulation at a fair market price nor did they remove us from a signed $11,000.00 contract to date!!

When I called Sears to complain about the lack of installation I was told that the installers had called me to make sure i was home and that we didn't answer the phone.  When I told them that my phone information only reflected a call with an immediate hang up they essentially called me a liar.  Very poor performers in the installation company.  Sears only offers installations once per week in the Key West area.  I canceled the sale and went to Certified Appliance who had equivalent pricing and first class installation.

When I purchased home roof leaked badly and needed reroofing ASAP.  Being new to the area I didn't know any local tradesmen so I contacted Sears.  Salesman was 1 hour late for estimate appointment and brought the wrong samples.  Installers were OK and did a good job. However, after checking with others I realized the job could have been done for a lot less. I'm satisfied with job but wish I had shopped around for a better price.

First I was  promised a 1 p.m. appointment. No one showed.I left the house  after 3:00 and came home to a note that I missed them. When I called back I was told no one should have given me a time. They arrive between 8-5 p.m. That would have been good to know! So I reschedule, still hopeful to get my cook top repaired. Three weeks later, a  service man arrives between 8-5. After, about 5 minutes he informs me I have no voltage and I need an electrician. He never lifted the cooktop to inspect the problem. "How can I have no voltage the lights are blinking on the cook top?  It has been in that spot for 20 years?" I cried. He snaps at me and says, "Maybe you have a bad circuit breaker, but you need an electrician!" He charges $150. I replied, I was told it was $89 for an estimate.  He said.  "Be lucky you are not paying for the new part." I was like, "What new part?" He snapped, "Mam, you need an electrician and it is $150.00 for the service call.  I wrote the check feeling robbed.
After an electrician confirmed that there was nothing wrong with my voltage or circuit breaker, I called SEARS back very frustrated.  The Sears salesman on the phone then offers me a $ 277.00 warranty deal. Where was this deal on my first call? I asked.
"I don't know." the man responded.
We will order the part, install it and you will have a year warranty. The cook top read ERROR 42.  I gave them the model number and serial number and they ordered a part.  I asked what about the 150 I already paid? He offered. A 50 refund.  I agree.
After waiting another 3 weeks for the new appointment and waiting on the part.  The next repairman arrives. This time he is a very nice gentleman, according to my husband who had to run home from work to meet him. However, this gentleman discovers they ordered the wrong part, and he cannot repair it.  He explains that the correct part is $565.00 and that the warranty deal they offered me will not cover anything over $500.  I said well what about the $150 i paid and the $277?  Long story shorter... I can buy a new cook top for the money I would spend.  I still have NOT been reimbursed.  I was emailed a $30 gift credit to spend at SEARS. And I still have no cook top!  I am on a mission to get credit card reimbursed for the 277.
I must say, the last repairman was very apologetic and said I cannot charge you. But, I was already overcharged! He took the part to return it and I have not been reimbursed.  Horrible service. NEVER AGAIN!

They were ripping people off. They came in with 6 or 7 Mexicans and none of them could speak English. They charged us almost $22,000 for a $7,000 roof. I thought they were going to take all the wood off and they just took the shingles off and put the shingles back on. They are running a lot of scams on people. We were really upset. I called them and cried and cried. Crying didn't do any good because they didn't want to listen to me. The work was okay and there was nothing wrong with it. They just overcharged. They did a great job putting the roof on. The Mexicans did a h*ll of a job but Sears walked away with a bundle of money. They should have put gutters all the way around the house and only did it halfway.

Heating and Air Conditioning Service, Air Duct Cleaning

the technician was Vincent Judillo and he was very courteous and on time. My problem is not with Vincent, its with the equipment that he used. I feel he cleaned the dryer vent in a excellent fashion. However, the a/c vents were a different story. He cut 2 holes in the air handler and attached a vacuum machine to it. He went inside the house and stuck a small hose in the vents, about the size of a hose used to put air in a flat tire. I asked him why he wasn't using a bigger hose and he said it was the only one they use. I said it was too small to clean properly. He told me the suction of the vacuum in the garage and the hose blowing in the vent would clear out all dust, dirt, mold, etc from the vents.I asked if he would go into the attic to check and he said no. They don't go into attics anymore. For the amount of money I spent, I expected a better job. Sears ripped me off. I would not recommend this service from Sears. If another company came over today, my a/c vents would still show up dirty and dusty.

Heating and Air Conditioning Service, Air Duct Cleaning
$638
On August 31, 2013 I had Sears service come out to our house for duct cleaning and
cleaning out the dryer vent. At the time, I was at the hospital with my husband
who was undergoing cancer treatment. The hospital required the vent cleaning as
part of the safety plan at home, because of my husband's compromised immune
system. We were given the choice that for an extra $400.00 dollars they could
also use an air freshener. My house has always smelled fine and I decline the
offer due to the extra expense and to protect my husband from airborne
chemicals.
The people that showed up were not Sears employees. Sears had contracted the work
out to an unknown company. When we returned from the hospital a couple of days
later, there was an awful, musty odor in our house. I called Sears and told
them about the problem and they sent the air duct cleaning company back to see
us. Nothing was done to correct the problem.
Today, 9/26/2013. I called out our Air Conditioning company
because half the house was feeling warm. He told me that the Air duct people
had not bothered to change the filters when they cleaned the vents, so both
filters were very clogged. In addition, they neglected to turn off the AC when
the cleaned the dryer vent, so the coils in both AC units were clogged with
dryer lint.
When I called Sears to complain, they told me that they are
not prepared to do anything about it nor will they reimburse me for the bad
service!
DO NOT USE SEARS SERVICES FOR ANY KIND OF
MAINTENANCE SERVICE. THEY CONTRACT THE WORK OUT TO THE LOWEST BIDDER AND YOU
HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU MAY BE IN FOR. I WILL PERSONALLY NEVER USE SEARS
AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

We had to have them come back and fix something that they had done wrong. They were okay. There were so many different people who did parts of the job and some of them didn't really know what they were doing. They might have been new at that so it took a lot of time because one would come and then we had to wait for the other people to come to do one part. They had to completely redo the floor so that was really time consuming because I had one day all teared up and then they put some kind of seal on it. We had to wait for half a week or something with our refrigerator in the living room. It was just very inconvenient to have our kitchen torn up that long. I would tell people to just be prepared for a very long process. Some people did one part of the job and they were very punctual while the other people weren't very punctual.

They are very reliable. I chose them because I felt that their warranties are good. I knew that if I ran into a problem, I could call them and they would be there to help or take care of whatever problems arose. They were a little expensive; I probably could have got a better price someplace. Because of their dependability and quality, I went with Sears. With regard to responsiveness, they are very good. With regard to punctuality, I never had to worry about them not coming when they said they would be here.

Hired Sears to do a Counter-top replacement in February, 2013. Gave them over $2000 deposit. They never sent any one although I called many times. Finally it took 6 weeks to get my deposit back. I guess Sears has become like their recent purchase of K-Mart. It is hard to get customer service in that store also. Sears had offered me $500 credit towards the job and again did not show up on the designated day and time. Finally they sent someone who did not speak English well enough for my wife who is handicapped to allow them in the house. I had waited all day and finally had to go to work. She could not discern who they were and was afraid to let them in the house.
I tried very hard to have them do the job but they withdrew their offer of $500. off. Here is a letter from their head of department. The local guys refused to honor this agreement.
Hi Mr. Cook, As discussed, please find the attached form showing that we agree to reduce your contract by $500.00. Please sign and email or fax back to me at 407-551-7156. I told the repairman that my dishwasher would not start. I had never had a problem with it. He immediately determined that the Bi-Metal Fuse needed to be replaced. He replaced the part in 10 minutes. The net labor charge on my bill was $143.00 (for 10 minutes work). The part was $33.54. Dishwasher works perfectly.

Since the repair, I went on the Sears repair website and found that I could get the part for about $25.00 and installation instructions that consumers had commented on the ease of replacement. Next time I will check the Sears repair website first. Bottom line the repairman would have the experience to diagnose and solve the problem - I wouldn't.
