POTENTIAL CLIENTS BEWARE: We gave Round Table a $1,725 deposit (equivalent to first month’s rent) for a rental home they had listed. Ten days following our application, we still had not received a lease and upon a visit to the property, discovered a flea infestation, a roach infestation, and a next-door neighbor whose lawn was so overgrown, that they had been cited by the City of Jacksonville. RoundTable had claimed they were trying to fix these issues with the infestations and the neighbor however, we were still very concerned that these issues were severe enough that they would persist in the future. So, we sent RoundTable an email letting them know that because of these issues, we did not want to move forward and inquired about our deposit. They then started referencing our $1,725 as a “hold-fee” even though up until this point they called it a “deposit” in writing, multiple times. They told us we would lose all of our $1,725 if we didn’t move in, even though they had never produced a lease to us and never technically “held” the property, as it was still being marketed on various websites, including their own website, for which we have proof. Out of fairness, we offered RoundTable to prorate our deposit for the 10 days and submit us the remaining funds but they declined our offer and still have not sent us a dime. When the realtor that had been representing us sent RoundTable an email about this being unethical, RoundTable responded back in writing by making excuses for why the property was still listed on the various websites and then proceeded to lie about our character, saying they hadn’t sent us the lease because we had been “wishy-washy” about our move-in date, even though the move-in date was clearly stated in writing from the very beginning. Then finally, RoundTable practically admitted their own guiltiness by coming back and trying to say they would prorate our deposit but only based on when they found a new tenant, trying to hold us responsible for the time it would take them to rent a property with these kinds of issues to someone else. Be careful if you have any dealings with this company. They can’t be trusted and apparently won’t hesitate to misrepresent the facts, lie about you to other people, and outright steal your money.
