Provider lead me to believe he is a licensed contractor, which he is not. Used below par sub-contractors.
Cabinetry was supposed to be all wood, some cabinets were all wood some were wood and particleboard. Some cabinets were ordered in the wrong size and provider refused to replace. Wrong color hardware (handles) were ordered and provider refused to replace. Granite countertop was unacceptable, broken and pieced together, installed uneven, and provider refused to replace. Provided insisted on up-charging for things that should have been part of the remodeling processing, such are repairing the opening made while rerouting the water line for the refrigerator.
In the bath, the tiling the shower was horrible. It was done twice and still not right. Tiles were uneven and points were sticking out with sharp edges. The plumbing the sink was put so close to the shower that the smallest vanity would have to be situated right against to the frameless glass shower with no space.
The provider wanted to reuse the old, broken baseboards and door jamb, I had to buy new and have the workmen install what I bought rather than use the old.
The provider wanted a "punch list" before even completing the job and when he didn't like what was on the list, because I was being "too picky", he walked off the job. I hired an attorney, the provided met with my attorney, walked to project with the attorney, agreed to accept a "punch list:" from the attorney and when furnished with the list, never scheduled a timetable with the attorney to rectify and complete the project.
We are now in litigation.
Don't ever use these guys. They are really available for you doing pre-sale but bail out on your inquiries during implementation.
I guess some pros:
- nice cabinets
- the granite company they used are really great guys
But this job was a con job with lots of cons!
- crew broke in my house to start the project (since wife and I were at work and told them we were on our way).
- the job PM not being around
- plumber was late
- foreign nationals used for tiles - not sure if they were licensed/legal
Too bad the old reviews are not listed anymore... this is a terrible vendor and I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.
1) Jack is a friendly salesman and owner. He did work with our budget and created a nice design.
2) The quality of the cabinets is good
3) The subcontractors Prolific used for my ceiling, floor, cabinets, tile, and granite(Planet Granite) were all professional
and punctual
4) Ace(Project Manager) does a great job taking the heat for Jack
5) The guys installing the floor tile forgot to plug the refrigerator back in. This was not discovered until 14hrs later. Accidents
happen, no problem. Jack credited our acct the amount requested for the loss of the food.
cons...1) When we signed the contract, our kitchen was promised to be completed or everything but the backsplash by Christmas.
Work ended on 12/22 with no counters, sink, or backsplash. I was told the countertops would be in on 12/26. After going to
Planet Granite, I found they were not even scheduled to install the countertops until 1/4. Prolific also failed to tell us they
were closed from 1/23-1/2. This was not a day or two delay, Prolific missed their deadline by almost three weeks.
2) Prolific does not do any electrical or plumbing, so you will have to schedule and pay the electrician and plumber yourself.
We had to be at the house for these appts, which was an inconvenience since my wife and I both work. Prolific told me to
schedule the plumber which turned out to be before the counters were installed. This cost me $83 just to hear a plumber
tell me there is nothing he can do until the counters and sink were in. Jack's guestimates on what the plumber and electrician
would cost were of course less than what they actually did.
Overall, I am torn on whether or not to use or recommend Prolific. I am happy with the end product and the quality, but unhappy with missed timeline and the lack of communication from Prolific.
Overall the work was very good except for tile work in the shower and installing the wrong shower glass. The owner, Jack Brust was very good at planning and designing the remodel. He was great at helping to plan the project, select materials, extremely pleasant to work with. Very smooth. Once work started it was extremely difficult to get in contact with the owner. There were several instances where owner was called requesting he come out to inspect work being done but calls went unanswered. At one time I even showed up at his office so I could talk to him about problems. Several times he indicated he would be out the next day but never showed up, never called. The owner was not responsive to our concerns about work being done, however Prolific was very quick to request and demand scheduled payments.
Prolific uses 3rd party contractors to perform work, they do not actually perform work themselves. Contractor that performed the work was punctual and polite, cleaned up daily after work and except for some tile issues did a great job.
The issues were with tile installation in shower area as the wall tiles were not level with each other, there were irregularities with tiles adjacent to each other not lining up. Once final payment was requested the issues with the tile were addressed. Prolific had their own job foreman come out and replace some of the tiles where possible . However they could not fix all the irregularities in shower as this would have required a redo of a majority of the work in shower which the owner of Prolific would not consider.
Additionally we had requested a "treated" glass for the shower, however we found out from the glass installers (after the glass was installed) that it was not treated. Upon questioning Prolific they responded that we had told them we didn’t want the "treated" version. This was a lie, there was never a conversation with anyone regarding changing the type of shower glass, in fact it was in the contract and had been discussed several times with Mr. Brust about installing the "treated" glass. He was the one to originally propose we use it. They had screwed up on ordering the glass and then tried to cover it up by implying we had changed the order. We felt that if we had not questioned the installers it might not have even come to light.
When I requested consideration on the bill the owner became angry and insisted full bill was to be paid, threatening he "will take me to court and his attorney will have me pay full amount, and all his court costs". He did finally agree to a very modest reduction on the bill.
NIGHTMARES EVERY DAY FROM THE 1ST LIE TO THE NEXT LIE.THIS PERSON DOES NOT CARE THAT YOU ARE UPSET BECAUSE HE IS A CONTROLLING,NARCISTIC -------------..IT WAS NOT A GOOD EXPIERENCE AT ALL.
Installers did not install drywall anchors for the towel racks. The cabinet is falling apart to shoddy installation. These guys are terrible and Jack is a snake oil salesman.
