JAXVILLE HOME IMPROVEMENT

Description of Work: Signed contract in January, 2010 for hip roof (we had flat roof), new windows and a few other items. Total contract was around $40,000. We put $20,000 down (50%). A few days later he came to collect for the windows ($6,000). By March when no progress was made, I began calling Mark McGuire weekly to find out why he was making no progress. He had many creative answers, the most frequent excuse was "rain". If it rained for 10 minutes during the week, he would not work on my house. This went on for 2 months. In May he cut off the overhang portion of the roof, and stopped work. Now when it rained, my roof leaked. He again stopped work. Several weeks later, he had a crew install "knee walls" to support the hip roof and placed a tarp over the roof to keep it from leaking. Now when it rained. our roof looked like a swimming pool. The weight of all that water on my old flat roof caused the roof to cave in and ruined the master bedroom necessitating carpet replacement, a new ceiling, repainting, and major clean-up. He ordered trusses for the hip roof that were 2" off, and I never could get him to install them. By now, I really didn't want him anywhere near my house. I reported him to the Dept. of Professional Regulation, and he was investigated. With contractor laws such as they are, the dept. was able to get him to return $12,000, but no further reimbursement was provided to us, nor was he sanctioned for the misery and misdeeds he did to my family and our home. You don't want Mark McGuire anywhere near your home.

Description of Work: Jacksonville Home Improvement put an addition onto my house, expanding three rooms.
