I originally received a competitive quote to perform the restoration on my vehicle. What was expected and the work that was to be performed were agreed on. The time frame that could be expected was also estimated , and the estimated cost for the services of the restoration was discussed .
I understood that there are unknown problems and circumstances that will arise in a restoration like this. However, there is an agreement as to what is to be expected . Unfortunately, my I was disappointed with the results. If I expected more than I was told in negotiations , I may be partially responsible. However, I feel I was mislead , as to what I would receive.
Briefly, I was told my restoration could be done for approximately $35,000. I certainly was prepared for a few surprises and to have the final cost reflect unknown circumstances that would surely arise. I also was prepared for the restoration to possibly take longer than the promised one year or so . If I had known that the restoration was going to take a full four (4) years and almost double the cost , I may have decided on a different service provider. At the time of delivery of my vehicle, I was aware of items that I was not satisfied with but, I believed that after a four year wait , I may never receive my vehicle as I was originally hoping .
On the way home I had brake problems . Then I had stalling problems. I eventually had to completely change the brakes that were incorrectly installed . I had to replace the carburetor , the ignition, the transmission , and the entire front end assembly also. I eventually had to spend an additional $10,000 over the next six months to make my vehicle usable. Additionally, I became aware during these repairs, that parts and components that were sold to me as new were misrepresented. I had three separate garages that were willing to support a possible court proceeding as witnesses in my behalf .
At the very least , this business would have to be considered misleading and unprofessional. At the worst, it would be considered as unethical and dishonest .
Finally, I will have to say that much of the work that was done was satisfactory. I am enjoying my vehicle now and glad to have it back. There was much work that was done after all. However, I do not believe I would have ever received what I was told , regardless of how long it would have taken. The fact that I was sold many parts as new and that were actually used, cannot be denied. Neither can the actual cost of the restoration, or the final amount of time that I was dealing with this business.
Buyer beware.
