INTERVEST CONSTRUCTION OF JAX

Early in planning, we went to the ICI Homes Builders Design Center and selected colors that would go with a blue, gray, and white trim scheme with black accents. We also selected a builder?s grade tile for the kitchen and foyer and upgraded to porcelain tile in the bathrooms for an additional cost of $2,530. Before building, ICI Homes changed the tile from our original kitchen and foyer tile saying there was an accident in the warehouse which broke most of our selected color. After the house was built and the bathrooms were completed, we found that the porcelain tile we had selected matched the master bath floor but nothing else. The master bath wall tile and spare bath tile were not the same color or pattern as the tile we selected. They placed tile that had large orange and dark lines; not the soft subtle tones of our selected upgrade. ICI homes pointed out it was in the contract they are allowed to make substitutions and are not responsible. We never dreamed the builder would accept tiles with such color difference. We were told the tile representative was sent to the home to evaluate. However, we were never told what resulted. The superintendent stated it was a Design Center issue. We upgraded the fireplace area to have ledge stone up to the ceiling for an additional $1,500. Above the fireplace mantel the stone wall contains brighter/different colors than under the fireplace; not balanced or matching in color. The superintendent explained how the guys installed the fireplace stone; ?One started at the bottom with stone from one pallet and the other started at the top from another pallet and that?s why they don?t? match?. We now live with this blunder since it is in the contract ICI Homes is not responsible for variation in colors. When approaching the closing date, the lender's appraisal resulted in a price of the home $35,000 less than purchase price. To avoid dealing with attorney's to resolve the problems, we felt we had to proceed with closing. ICI Homes has not offered any compensation for not putting in the right color of tile or not installing the ledge stone properly. If you plan to have ICI Homes build your home do not upgrade anything, it will raise the price of the home, not appraise near it, and the builders took no action to correct their errors.
