I am extremely pleased with the finished product and I would highly recommend Horizon Landscape. It was a positive experience from beginning to end.
I signed up with Horizon to do landscape drawings and photos and design it all out for me and then of course to quote the actual work. These guys do a lot of work in my neighborhood and it all looks nice.
He came out, measured, took pictures, talked about what I want to do and then left. Some time later we received some files and pictures from his designer. Well, it wasn't quite right. It wasn't so much that the designs weren't to my satisfaction it was that the scale of the design was off. storage sheds, fences, existing decking, etc were materially out of place on the drawings. We went back and forth several times and it kept getting better but it wasn't great. We were going to proceed anyways. We went and met Brian at the nursery and chose all our plants. While there talking with him, we talked about fountains (he said go to Concrete Creations), we talked about irrigation (he gave me the phone number of another guy), we talked about hardscapes (he gave me the phone number of another guy), fences (he knows a guy), etc. The more I thought about it the more I started to feel like this project was going to be more work for me than it was for the people I was paying to do the work. I felt like I needed to be a general contractor which I am not. So for the price I was going to pay just for plants and planting and land clearing the whole thing never felt right.
As it turned out, Horizon never called me back anyways to schedule the work which was fine. I found another company (reviewed separately) that did more work than Horizon was capable of doing for much less money than Horizon would have charged me just for plants!
With Horizon I wasted months of my life and got a semi-usable landscape design for $400. Ultimately I was glad that I did not hire them to do the actual work.
Eric, who cuts the lawn, drives a big new truck that is messy inside. He only drives the lawn tractor, and can be surly and abrupt. His partner Bran is polite, intelligent and he too has a new truck. They also employ a secretary who is polite and responsive. The workers are all young and hard working.
They seem to carry a large overhead burden.
I thought overcharged for a two hour job ($150) for two workers, but refused to discuss it and abruptly stopped service without any notice or call. I had to call them to determine the issue.
Eric, the large fellow who only drives the lawn tractor is abrasive, sullen, and easily agitated. Brian the landscaper is affable, smart and likely a great landscaper. He acknowledged his partners sullen demeanor.
For landscaping they are probably fine, but the Lawn service is quirky and Eric's team is stressed
