Hickory Creek Nursery

We hired Hickory Creek to help us design and install new landscaping for our front and backyard. Jessica came and assessed our yard, and listened to our requests and designed a rendering that presented a vision for our space. She selected plants and materials based on our preferences. She was very easy to communicate with and stuck to our budget. When it was time for installation, Troy, Adam & Danny showed up on time and were very professional. We got new sod installed, and realized how important it was to have irrigation professionals on hand to make sure all of our sprinklers were functional. We couldn’t be more pleased with the finished result. It’s like we have a whole new yard to enjoy. We would 100% recommend Hickory Creek to anyone needing plants or landscaping assistance.

Hickory Creek is an easy company to do business with for your landscape needs. They really allow you to stretch your landscape budget. They have a large assortment of products with knowledgeable staff. We selected the tree and scheduled a delivery date all at the same time. The company delivered and installed the tree as scheduled and we are delighted on how great it looks in our yard. This is a first class organization.

Install went well. HC was able to modify the plan due to utility easements that we needed to accommodate. There were a couple of trees that were affected by the wind from Irma and HC came back out and corrected their tilt. Troy also came and repaired an irrigation head that was broken - it was not in an area that they worked but he did make the repair for us.

They installed it on schedule and I was satisfied with their installation. They are very helpful in advising me of maintenance and care.

Sod Installation, plants and mulch installed.   Preparation for sod installation was mostly accomplished by the home owner.  Sod installation was uneven due to the poor quality of the sod, not the preparation and was not placed close together leaving large spaces between sod squares.  Plants and Mulch was OK.  Sod was purchased from Round Tree Sod.  4 pallets of the 10 pallets died within thirteen days.   Requested help from Hickory Creek numerous times.  I was not asking for money back but a way to correct the issue.   They promised to get back with me and they did not.  I am still trying to recover from the very poor installation of what sod survived and that was after I had Peninsular Pest come and spray.  The sod was in very poor condition according to Peninsular Pest.  Hickory Creek appears to try its best but they still need improvement.  Their choose of sod company is poor at best.  Tried to resolve the sod issue with Round Tree and they gave me the song and dance.  Another company, Round Tree, that is very poor with after the sale.  If you choose to use Hickory Creek, I recommend you check with Hickory Creek on who they are using for sod and take a hard look at that company and if your are hoping nothing goes wrong you may be OK.

There are three problems here, one Hickory Creek should of worked with the customer to resolve the issues, they did not.

Second, their poor choose of sod retailer (Round Tree).

Three, they should of been the person to deal with Round Tree Sod, not me.

Overall a very good experience. They were backlogged on all their projects given the heavy rains recently, which explains the 'B' in their punctuality. However, they were thoroughly professional throughout and made sure to offer me choices to pick from. They also listened seriously to my needs and were flexible enough to accommodate my requests in terms of scheduling, and gave me accurate estimates on times needed to accomplish the tasks. I would use them again.

Hickory Creek Nursery had us choose the trees we wanted for our yard and went out of its way to search sources for the types and sizes that would best fit in our selected spot. We ended up choosing two trees that they had had in their nursery stock so they had us mark them and then schedule an installation day. The installation was complicated because the selected spot is against a lagoon bulkhead (we live on a golf course) and maneuvering heavy equipment bring them to the right spot was dicey. Troy did a masterful job getting them exactly where we wanted them. The rest of the crew was courteous and hardworking to assure that the trees would settle properly but that, also, the yard and patio area would be undamaged. They did a nice job cleaning up before leaving and they gave us explicit instructions for caring for the trees during their first few weeks of settlement. We found Hickory Creek to be value-conscious and customer-conscious alike.

Troy and Jessica were great! They provided a landscape plan so I could obtain HOA approval. They scheduled and showed up on time. They efficiently removed all the old plants and replaced with new shrubs and trees, mulched, and fixed the sprinklers. The HCN crew cleaned up on completion. Our new landscape looks great. Really quite happy with the result and get lots of compliments! Highly recommend HCN!

We wanted to redo our front yard to get rid of all grass and reduce our maintenance. We talked to several companies, but Tory(?) had the best ideas and seemed reasonable to work with, so we hired him. He responded promptly to our initial call, was on time for the appointment, and was able to do the work in a reasonable amount of time, considering we were in the holiday season. They did a good job, but the boss had to leave early and left two workers to finish up. We have come to realize as the jasmine has filled in that his workers weren't quite as careful after he left, so that area requires a bit more maintenance on our part, but everything he told us about the plants has turned out to be true and they are filling in really well. We expect that in about a year, our maintenance will be minimal -- trimming and weeding a couple times a year as opposed to mowing weekly all summer.  The front yard cost about $3,750.
We liked their work well enough to hire him again in March to put some cedar trees, ivy, azaleas and gingers in the back yard. Again, he was prompt to respond, did the work when he said he would, and it is accomplishing what we wanted. That cost us about $1,750.
He's easy to deal with, knows plants, has good ideas, and you get what he says you'll get. If I ever need more landscaping, I'll call them first.

Overall, it went well. It looks like they did a good job. They have put the stuff in; I have to see how it makes up.

They did a great job with the planting.

Everything went well except they had to come back with some more dirt and a bigger dumpster to take all the debris away.  Also, they were suppose to dig up the cement and wood edging.  They did that as well.  They also, trimmed the fruit trees in the back yard.

After calling the main number, they came out promptly and gave me a fair estimate on the sod and landscape lighting. The yard repair and sod replacement was $600 and the lighting was $2,140. They came out the next week and performed all of the work. It has been almost a year and the sod grew in nicely. The sod was definitely from a good supplier. The lights look great and we have had no issues. recommend.

They were very well because of the work and person talking to us about different ideas. And then, follow up on problems and stuff was very good. It was probably in July or June and the price was reasonable.

Repairs went well. Cost of splicing wires was ridiculous. There was a bit of an attitude, like they were the only ones who can fix them and, when they get around to it. It took 2-3 weeks to finally get someone out.
The worker was very nice, professional and courteous. 
Also, I'm beginning to think, when someone is recommended by Angies list, the cost goes up, and not just a little. It's happened more than once or twice....
Did you hear that Angie?!  Way up!
Check your people for raising their rates, because of your recommendations. The coupons, (in some cases) are just smoke screens to hide the rate hike...

Hickory Creek worked FAST! I had an extremely large oak tree removed from my front yard on a Tuesday and my new yard and irrigation was completed by Wednesday.
The sprinkler system works great and the yard looks great. It was very comforting to be able to go to the nursery to pick out our oak tree. Knowing what you're going to get helps deal with the stress of a big project.

Great results - looks beautiful.  Very pleased with the work and the selection of plants he chose.

Troy and his team from Hickory Creek Nursery transformed my entire yard!! They totally tore out all of the old plantings and weeds from the front and back yard (pool area). Trimmed exsisting Sagos and leveled beds. When I met with Troy I told him I wanted my pool area to be a "tropical paradise" and I couldn't be happier!
In the pool area they installed Queen Plams, Brazilian Iris, Muhly grass, Varigated Ginger, Hawaiian Ty, Xanadu, Loropetalum and LED lighting. It looks fantastic!!
In the front yard they installed a Triple Pygmy date palm, Single Pygmy date palm, Brazilian Iris, Agapanthus, Varigated Ginger and LED lighting. It looks fantastic as well!!
From the time I spoke with Jessica and Troy I knew they were the Landscapers for me. They listened to what I wanted, gave me sugestions and really transformed my "wants" into a reality.
Troy has an excellent eye for what looks good and I let him do his thing. Even though he owns the company he was always right there working to make sure everything was perfect. His team is fantastic too. They have been with him for years and don't miss a beat. Troy is one of the nicest guys I have ever done business with and really knows his stuff! I would use Hickory Creek Nursery again in a heartbeat. There work is OUTSTANDING!!

Great experience! They arrived on time, did a beautiful job with the planting and were very careful to clean up afterwards. Would highly recommend them!

I was not at home while the work was being done so I cannot say with great detail how the work itself actually went but my Wife, who was at home while they worked, complained constantly about the crew. They removed the old sod, I guess that went OK, but then when they got ready to connect the irrigation system, they were not prepared for the galvanized water main and had to call a plumber, which they selected, but we had to pay extra for. No problem with this, they did ask, and I really should have used our regular plumber, since the first plumber they called showed up late in afternoon and then left without doing anything. Then he returned the next morning, only to be called away for an emergency, or so he said anyway. The second plumber then completed the job. This obviously pushed the schedule out for the job, since the finished job looks like they hurried to make up the time lost waiting for their plumber. The irrigation system works as advertised I guess, I'm no expert but it looks like it covers everything reasonably well. The sod work is very poor. In fact  the first words out of my lawn service guy when he arrived back a month after the sod was laid was "wow they did a really poor job" We waited to write this review hoping it would grow in and wanted to give Hickory Creek the benefit of the doubt, but 3 months later it is still very uneven. One square high the next one low. I guess even basic leveling of the surface prior to laying the sod was not included in the job. When the lawn is mowed now the mower scalps multiple locations in the yard while not cutting other areas at all as a result of the uneven sod squares, and it still looks like it was just laid, with the individual sod borders clearly visible in many locations. We are still hoping it will grow in eventually so we won't have to have it redone. We paid for 6 pallets of sod, but my wife said they left with nearly a full pallet on the truck. They did not ask if we wanted the remaining sod and no refund was offered for the sod that was taken. I selected this nursery based on other reviews on Angie's list, but they clearly did not live up to that reputation. Very disappointed.
