He came to re-locate a doggy door to a different room. When he tried to install it, it turned out the door was too small for the new door. Instead of just saying the door doesn't fit, he went to Lowes and bought some aluminum siding. He found a way to creatively cover the 15" gap and make it look professional. Also, he was very reasonable about the cost. We expected it to take about 1 hour and it ended up being about 3. He only charged $15 extra.
Very nice guy -- on time.

He had two men get up in the roof and tore up the skylight damaging it making impossible to resell it. To this day I don't know what he used to close the existant hole in the roof, it appeared acceptable with new shingles, but in the inside, it looked like a patch up job, used hard sheet wall board to cover the hole, did not match the ceiling and the popcorn was simply runny and totally horrible. The balcony, he used plywood instead of treated wood and in the chimney he replaced (8) 2x4x8. None of the wood replacement was painted. The skylight was thrown down from the roof into the backyard and it was left wherever it fell. All the removed wood and garbage was left spread out in the entrance of the house and on the garden. In addition, some items were taken from the garage and never accounted for. The gutters, he placed a new down spout and did not repair any other damaged gutter. He also had my next door neighbor have a gutter installed and promised to paint which he never did and charged her for it. He does not add or substract accurately and overcharges you if you are not watching. All of this happened because I wanted to give an old man a chance to make a living, and trusted him to do the job without close supervision (since I live in Georgia). I have retained an attorney who sent him a letter requesting his license/permit to practice in the state of Florida and receipts for the material and cost of labor. He could not provide any instead he responded with a bunch of confusing and overwhelming estimates with different figures he does not even know are wrongly calculated for the total amount. I will take him to Small Claims Court in Florida if it the last thing I do! He is unpleasant and intimidating man who likes to yell over the phone when things don't go his way. He likes to defame your character and absolutely refuse to recognize his mistakes. He does not supervise his people and there is no accountability. This old man should retire and stop causing problems to people who want to give the retired a chance to work.l !

"he customer hired us to remove a skylight and close in the area which we did and even matched the shingles. Nothing was torn up and this location was said to be the customers retirement location. We discussed doing an entire enterior paint job so the closed ceiling was not painted however the area was coated with popcorn and other than the gray shade it could not even be noticed as repaired, The customer required a balcony to be rebuilt and more wood was damaged than we anticipated so more materials had to be used. WE DID NOT CHARGE MORE! The customer also requested the chimney be repaired and when we found less damage we actually reduced the original charge for labor. None of the charges for labor remained as proposed but were infact reduced. The difference was materials purchased. By the way the customer still owes a balance of over $250 to this day and wanted to re-negociate the total cost after the job was done! I have the actual proposal, invoices and materials list to confirm and also pictures of the work to prove the report is incorrect!"

Job was done on time. I did have a few issues with responsiveness.

He was a nice guy, and seemed to know his stuff. He was a little slow at finishing the job, but everything got done, and it was a small job that wasn't finished quickly. At first I was pretty happy with his work, but we've since had to re-repair the patio doors which leaked (which was why we had them taken out and redone in the first place. The other stuff was fine: pest control people thought the trellises were good (not touching the ground, away from the walls), the front door is fine (and it is an old house -- he had to rebuild the door jamb), but it was disturbing to have the patio doors leak.

"This "customer" requested pictures to be hung and supplied some of the materials required! Some of the materials were sub-standarded and created problems. After working two hours and having purchased $11 of materials that I thought would be needed and were used I was asked to return the next day! A telephone call requesting my not to come as the "customer" had found someone else that only charged $25/hr as opposed to the agreed $45/hr rate I charge and requested I call to advise as to the bill! I called and told the "customer" that it was 2 hours plus the materials used and the bill was $101.00! The "customer" refused to pay that amount and we agreed on $50!!! Note the $50 was never received!"

He was always timely, pleasant, and the price was much lower than others. I'm not sure I would use him for careful detail work, but the quality was good. He was a pleasure to work with.

Grandpa Can Fix It consists of one man and his assistant. "Grandpa" is a retired business man who can fix things. He is careful and neat. He was super careful with the piano, and showed me what he was going to do beforehand to protect my floor. He watches the costs. He was punctual most of the time, and he made sure to let me know when he was going to be late. I was comfortable leaving him in the house. The one time we discussed how I was being charged, he was very responsive and we came to an acceptable compromise.

The tile installation was excellent. They installed the tile on the porch surface, the edge of the porch, and on the steps. This was a very professional installation and very high quality work. There were delays in getting the work done, but it was a good quality job and looks great! The framing and hardiboard installation below the sunroom was a quality job for 95 percent of the work. Some attention to detail was superior, while some areas on the side were not. Grandpa gave us an estimate on materials and we had everything delivered, but he overestimated the 2 by 4s and hardiboard by a ton. He did take all the extra materials back and brought back a refund to me. The job took much longer than planned, due to Grandpa not coming every day. He did not inform me when he was not coming. Communications was probably a C. The Ceiling work took about 3 hours total. I think the mud on the ceiling was not dry enough before he applied the Orange Peel, so I will have to finish that, but he left me one of the Orange Peel cans.

Grandpa is quick to respond. He picked my call immediately (unlike couple of other Handy men in the area who did not bother to respond to my voice mail) and came to my home at the promised time (which is also based on my convenience). I didn't have to stay home during his visit. He worked without asking for anything and completed the work in about 2 hours. Very professional and easy to work with. I am not sure about his hourly charge (if it is the average or at the lower end or at the higher end).

Everything went great. There was a problem with the disposal which he came back first thing the next morning and fixed. Grandpa got a lot done in a day and charged a very fair price. I will keep Grandpa's number handy!

Grandpa is an older gentleman that really knows his stuff. As we just moved into our new home, there were some things we needed fixed. He came out to our home and gave us an estimate that we couldn t refuse. He was punctual, neat, extremely courteous and will go the extra mile to ensure the customer gets exactly what he is paying for.
