Our refrigerator stopped cooling on December 22, 2013 with a refrigerator full of food for the Christmas holidays. We called the GE central service number first, but because of the holidays they could not get anyone of their service repair personnel to come before 1/4/14. GE suggested we call GES Refrigeration which might be able to repair the problem perhaps more timely. We made a number of calls to GES Refrigeration (sometimes they answered, sometimes not; but they didn't follow thru on their promises more often than not), and they finally came to see what part would be needed. It was determined the fan motor wasn't running, so GES informed us the part and work were under warranty, they would order the part from GE, and call as soon as it was in. Further calls to check on status were generally not returned or we were told "part was in order - they would call when it was received". We called GE again just before New Years-to see if they had shipped - and GE informed us the part had been shipped and should have been received already. More calls to GES Refrigeration, and finally on January 3 GES returned with a fan motor, spent 15 mins. installing it, and left. No checking anything else to make sure all else was well. So, we had spent two weeks of the Christmas holidays - with holiday visitors here for Christmas Eve dinner - keeping our food in ice coolers and depending upon the good graces of neighbors to hold our frozen food.
Then on 2/15/15 we received a bill for $247.17 from GES Refrigeration for the 15 mins. work, the motor, and an $80 trip charge for the 1/3/14 work, which they had told us was under warranty but apparently turned out not to be. We paid the bill on February 11, and the check was cashed on Feb. 18.
With great irony, on February 22 the refrigerator stopped chilling AGAIN! Multiple calls and messages left for GES Refrigeration for several days got us ZERO.....not even the courtesy of a returned call. Nothing. So we called GE customer service and they recommended A&E, which sent an excellent technician on February 26, who restarted the refrigerator. However, he said what caused the chilling stoppage this time wasn't the motor, but corroded wiring attached to the motor, which he scraped and indicated is a part that cannot be ordered and is considered a "non-serviceable" part. Well, that's now an entirely different saga regarding GE and its appliances. However, GES Refrigeration probably should have looked at the corroded wiring as well and cleaned it off as did A&E - and perhaps it may have prevented a recurring chilling stoppage....and perhaps we might not have even needed a new motor!!!! What is particularly insulting about GES Refrigeration, however, is that the repair work performed was supposedly under warranty and a return visit should have been covered by their warranty....and they didn't have the decency to return a call.
In any case, we strongly recommend NEVER using GES Refrigeration for any service. They stand as the model for worst customer service provided by any company we've ever dealt with.
Our decision: buy a new refrigerator - not a GE product - so we don't have to deal with GE or GES Refrigeration again.
