+ -1 moreNIGHTMARE. In addition to the thosands of dollars in earnest deposit money, which I am sure I will never recover, I will have to engage a lawyer to ensure I am protected from liens and suppliers coming after me. The roof was never finished, trash left all over yard. I am left with a felt roof and not even THAT was installed properly. I have heard he does not pay his workers, although I admit that is hearsay from a google search of reviews (city search). I can't get workers comp involved for violations since the workers appear on site random days for a handful of hours, then disappear for days & weeks. I will upload pictures once litigation has completed.
Description of Work: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. DO NOT TRUST MATTHEW GATES. DO NOT GIVE MONEY FOR DEPOSIT, you'll never see it again. YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF. Our roof is in worse shape now than before, I wish I had known all this before giving a deposit and signing a contract. Countless excuses, lies, trash left in my yard, improperly installed materials, roof never completed. Does not return calls, or does and says he will 'be there today at X time, no matter what' and does not show, or call, time and time again. Check with BBB (F rating, numerous complaints) Also check: * Jacksonville Inmate Search for Matthew Gates' jail time record--including arrest for forging homeowner's signature and false representation of licensed contractor * Check both Duval and St Johns County clerk of courts records for judgements awarded to advertisers and suppliers for non-payment * Check both Duval and St Johns County criminal records for arrest records * Check coj.net building inspection department, permits are not pulled under 'Gates' but American Roofing, LLC (whom I had never heard of). Note the number of failed inspections YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF.
