The work performed by the installers was good, but the design service they professed to have left a lot to be desired. We wanted to remodel the master bath so we could have an air bubble tub and a steam shower. There was not enough attention to detail. They discouraged us from ordering an Ameritech tub that we knew would accommodate my very tall husband, saying that they were unfamiliar with the manufacturer, they suggested a different tub, assuring us the interior length would accommodate my very tall husband, but when it arrived, the interior length was way to short and it had to be exchanged. They did absorb the cost of the exchange and were very gracious in that respect. The tub we originally wanted was ordered and delivered, but when they installed it they failed to install an access panel for the motor. We picked out two different patterns of ceramic tiles (at their insistence) but only one pattern was actually used. Their showroom shows lots of nice modern stuff, but they do not like to do modern, and would not order some of the more modern vanities we had chosen from displays in their showroom. I actually ordered a vanity from somewhere else and had it delivered. This vendor prefers traditional décor and has a tendency to suggest the more traditional stuff. We wanted a steam shower and our the original design included that, but when it came down to the actual planning and installation - they said they could not fit it into the space. We were told the job would take 6 weeks, but it took 3 months to complete. In the end it was a lovely new bathroom, but we remodeled so we could have a steam shower and wound up spending a lot of money but not really getting what we set out to get. Really nice guys, and they did their best, but we should have gone with a company that was more in tune with what we set out to achieve.
I called Family Tile with some questions regarding the job 5 months late. My daughter complained of the water not being hot enough and that there was cracks in the corners. I had her stop using the bathroom. I put off calling about the problem until just last week as I got busy with school and work. I wanted go over what to do. I asked for John when I called and his reponse was and quot;who is thisand quot; in an unkind tone. Not very professional. I explained what I saw in the grout, he proceeded to get very defensive as if I was being accusatory. I simply wanted someone to come out and show me how to mend the cracks. He said and quot;you can do it yourself, didn't we leave you any grout mix.and quot; He did briefly describe how to mix the grout and apply it with your finger. I also had a question regarding the temperature of the shower. Ever since they had finished the job the water in that bathtub did not get hot enough. I remember the worker askingand quot; how hot do you want it, I know you women like the water hot. and quot; The owner insisted they don't do any thing with the plumbing, when in fact they are the ones that took off and replaced the bath fixture. Again he was very defensive and offered no help. I finally googled the problem. I found out there is an adjustment dial on the faucet, which i was able to adjust. I would think he would have known and suggested that.
I guess I just expected a bit more professionalism than defensiveness from this owner, especially after I spent $1400. I still have no major complaints on the job. But I never got a calm confident feeling with the owner. In all my conversations with him there was always a defensive tone to him.
I'm getting ready to do my master bath now, after this last interaction I have decided I will not use this company again. Its too much of my hard earned money to not feel 100% confident and at ease with the person.
