About us

We were founded in 1963 by Emory M. Robinson, long time hobbyist, coin lover and collector himself. Edgewood Coin Co. opened at 934 Edgewood Ave S, directly next to the Murray Hill Theatre, which he also owned at the time, in its movie-showing days. Edgewood Coin started as a hobby-turned-side business, and become his sole, full time work, selling the movie theatre and eventually expanding the coin shop from 934 Edgewood Ave S, right next door to a then newly-remodeled and bigger venue, 936 Edgewood Ave. S, where we are still today. In his later years in life, when asked when he was going to retire, Emory would say that he was, and had been for years (despite the fact that he was running a business); he was just doing what he loved. He was a pillar and vast depth of knowledge in establishing the coin community as we know it today, especially in our local community. Our current space at 936 Edgewood Ave S, housed his hobbies and interests, from coins, to currency, to long conversations with close customers and friends, to a diverse bank collection, collectible bottles, artwork, and historical pieces displayed high and low. As a family business, family centers as a priority and theme and kids were raised partially within those same walls. Emory was founder and owner of the company, up until his passing in January of 2018, survived by his wife Patsy, who owned and operated it for years but has now retired. The family’s still here, with Emory and Patsy’s daughter-in-law Lisa their son Johnny’s wife, and granddaughters Jessica and Sarah, continuing ownership and management.

Services we offer

We offer free verbal appraisals on your coin collections and bullion, and a written appraisal, generally for Insurance or Estate Purposes, for a fee. For Insurance appraisals, please reach out to your insurance company to see what is required for your specific policy or company to make sure our service will qualify. We do accept collection drop-offs for purchase-evaluation or appraisal and encourage customers with large, very time-consuming collections to use this option, but you’re more than welcome to have us go over the collection with you while instore if you’re more comfortable and time allows. While we do not offer official appraisals on jewelry, we do buy and sell gold and silver new and estate jewelry and sterling silverware. We have an eclectic shop and understand why people may assume, but we do not deal in most antiques or stamps.

WARNING: Edgewood coin has a thief among them......I turned in my grandmother's engagement ring as one of the diamonds fell out and I needed it replaced. WHELP, they don't have it. On top of that, I was told the previous jeweler passed away and his wife took his materials....promising to call his clients. I got zero phone calls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I find the ticket for it, I will be filing a police report and I'm posting this review everywhere I can think to post it!! [*** Link removed ***]

In response to your concern: The jeweler located inside Edgewood Coin is not affiliated with us in terms of employment or business ownership. They are an independent business that subleases space within our store—similar to how Sephora operates inside Kohl’s or Dillard’s. The jeweler currently occupying that space is well-established and has maintained a strong reputation with no known issues. The situation you’re referencing appears to involve a previous jeweler, who sadly passed away nearly seven years ago. We want to respectfully clarify that Edgewood Coin is a separate business and has no managerial or operational connection with the jeweler. While we’re sorry to hear about any negative experience you may have had, we kindly ask that any concerns be directed to the appropriate party to avoid misrepresenting our business. Because they do not have a "contact us" email address listed, I contacted them through their eBay user name. They responded with an offer to buy my silver at $8.50 per face dollar. I replied, telling them that I had two other offers, both around $9.50 per face dollar and asking if they would match these offers. It appears that they retaliated against me by reporting my eBay message to them. I just received a warning from eBay, citing that first message. Not only are their offers to buy too low; but, their indiscretion in so far as reporting me to eBay is just poor business practice. If you have silver for sale, there are many better buyers than Edgewood Coin Shop.

Description of Work: Went in to sell several gold coins, the price offered was 1/2 of what i received from the coin company on st augustine road. he doubled there offer and that is where i sold my $10 and $20 gold coins.

Edgewood has a terrific reputation within the community. They have been in business for many years, and is family owned. I sold them some of the items they appraised, and I feel like they gave me a fair price. I was pleased with the services they offered, and would use them again.
