About us
Black Key Designs was started in 2002 by Grant Nielsen in Jacksonville, FL. The original mission of the business was to provide working artists with affordable services that could help foster a greater art/music scene locally. As time moved forward BKD extended its services to accomodate more types of businesses and broadened the geographical focus to include the rest of the world in its resource-based strategy. While the specifics change with time, the core principle of providing top quality tools at the fairest possible price still holds true.

From some bare-bones ideas I had for creating the covers (and booklets) for two CD projects, Grant went above-and-beyond to create two elegant and artistic layouts. And for a nice price!
I found Grant to be available to me via email and phone (he always responded quickly). And he was also quite willing to patiently listen to my ideas, and then take those ideas and build on them to create two layouts which exceeded what was only in my imagination.
But even better, if I simply asked Grant to come up with his own ideas from scratch, his artistic concepts were truly fantastic.
I was also very satisfied with Grant’s very fair pricing for his work. I’m sure he worked longer on my projects for what he required as a fee, but that goes to show just how much he cared about the finished results.
I plan to use Grant for the next few illustration projects I have to accomplish. His artistic sensibilities, and his technical capabilities, provided me with exactly what I needed: the most professional layouts possible for my CDs, which absolutely, positively had to be the best. Especially for the big-time meetings I need to attend with them.
