The truck showed up on time with 2 movers. The move appeared to be going well. One of the first items off the truck at the new location was my dining room table. It was not wrapped or protected in any way. They had laid it up against the refrigerator in the back of the truck and the cord from the appliance dug into the top surface of the table, making a deep gouge in the wood about 2 inches by 1 inch. Mike, one of the movers admitted it was his fault, that he thought it would be ok to transport it such a short distance without wrapping it and didn't notice the refrigerator plug when they placed it in the truck. Mike then called Shanna, the company owner, and asked her to call me. It took over an hour for her to return the call. During the wait, Mike and the other gentleman unloaded the rest of the furniture, with a lot of help from my roommate. The gentleman helping Mike seemed inexperienced and slow.
When Shanna did call me, she said according to the contract, they were not responsible for the first $200 in damage. I had read the contract and was aware of this. She said if they submitted a claim through their insurance, I would have to pay the first $200 and the process takes a very long time to have any repairs made. Mike said he had a friend who worked on furniture for a living and would take the tabletop to him for repair. This seemed like a reasonable accommodation. That was on 24 October.
I began calling 2 weeks later, checking on the status of the repairs. At one point I reached Mike, as opposed to Ron, who usually answered the phone, but never had any answers. Mike advised it would be another 7 days. After many more calls to Ron, and after threatening a bad review here and filing a report with the Sheriff's office over theft of the table, Ron finally contacted Mike. That was a Monday. Ron advised the table would be delivered on Wednesday, 27 November, the day before Thanksgiving. Wednesday morning, I called Ron again. He advised the table would be delivered between 3 and 7 pm that evening. Finally, at 6:10 (after dark), Mike arrived with the table. Before reattaching the top to the table frame, he stood the tabletop on it's side and showed me that the gouge was gone. However, when I touched the table, it felt like plywood, not a finished piece of furniture. When I mentioned it to Mike, he said the repairman sanded as much as he could and then finished the table with some type of oil and that what I was feeling was the oil. There was definitely some type of oil on the table, it came off on your hands if you touched it. The next morning, in bright light, I could see why it was delivered after dark. In the area where the gouge was, the area had been sanded all the way through the veneer. The heavy coating of oil kept me from seeing this the night before. The veneer edging had nearly been sanded through in some areas and was coming loose. It appears as though the and quot;oiland quot; had been applied while the table was standing upright on its edge, because there are actually visible runs in the oil.
The table is ruined. What makes this even worse, was this table was the first piece of and quot;newand quot; furniture I bought after my divorce. Not only was it beautiful before the and quot;repairs, and quot; but it held significant sentimental value for me. Baymeadows Express Movers had my tabletop for over a month, only returned it after threats, and the so-called repairs ruined the entire tabletop. This tabletop is solid wood, covered with a layer of veneer to give the look of inlay. It was unusual and was always a source of great pride. Although Mike did try to correct the damage, which I did appreciate, the results were a disaster. Other than Mike, no one ever provided an acceptable reply to any of my calls or request for an update.
I doubt if this review will prompt Shanna to offer to make the situation right, but I did want to share my experience with other Angie's List members to maybe spare them the loss of a special piece of furniture.

I saw that they had a bad rating but called them anyway. They went out of their way to make a good impression and did everything they promised to do at a fair price.
Nothing was damaged.
However I did, as always, move my sensitive electronics and important things myself in my own vehicle. I would do this with any mover though.
I will use them again.

In the moving process, they had broke the glass top on one of my side tables. They acknowledged this, measured the glass and said they would get back to me about replacing. I have not heard back from them since. I wrote multiple emails and made several phone calls have not received a response still.
Response from Baymeadows Express Movers
"I would like to say first off that i have tried contacting you back about 2 times. Once i never got a call back from you i stopped trying to reach you. Secondly we are not responsible for the glass that broke from your table. the movers brought to your attention that it was unstable and you said it was fine and you are the one who placed an item on top of the table. That is when the glass broke. If you read the contract that you signed BEFORE and AFTER the movers finished with their move it says that by law we are not responsible for the first $200 worth of damage. At the very bottom you signed the contract as well releasing our company of any and ALL liability damages so that right there releases us of any issues regarding your broken glass. If you would not have signed the contract then our insurance company would file a claim but since you did not do so we are not able to file the claim. NOR is it our responsibility."
