We contacted Artistic Marble and Granite because the retailer where we purchased our tile had recommended them. Upon first contact with them, the sales staff was very friendly and accommodating, and we visited the site and made some preliminary selections. The next day, we returned to give them our choice for a total of about $665, our deposit (50%), and set up a time to be measured. When the owner arrived to measure the vanity, there were three other contractors doing work in the bathroom at the same time. He measured the vanity, asked me NO questions and told me nothing, took our sink and cutout diagram with him, and promised me our counter within a few days.
Sidenote. Our vanity is an offset configuration where there is a 36" wide combination vanity cabinet on the left with doors on the left side and drawers on the other, combined with two other banks of drawers to the right, totalling 70" in width. The vanity fits between a wall on the left and a pony wall on the right. The 36" vanity portion has a dummy drawer panel on the top that covers the entire length of the 36" cabinet.
When the counter arrived, the owner had decided to cut out the sink opening over ONLY the door portion of the 36" cabinet. The edge of the sink was only 1.5" from the wall! The sink was also, NOT centered over the dummy panel on the top of the cabinet. I immediately took pictures of it and texted to the girls at the store, and to my husband, and posted the pictures on Facebook for friends to comment. With the exception of the Artistic Marble owner and employees, EVERYONE else thought it looked absolutely horrible and was unworkable. You would have to stand sideways to brush your teeth over the sink. When I called the store to discuss, the girls put the owner on the phone, and he immediately started yelling at me telling me "It is not wrong, I've been doing this for over 30 years and you ALWAYS center sink over doors!" I told him it looked like CRAP and that it was unworkable for my 6'4" 220+ lb husband. He took no responsibility for the error and continued to tell me that it was MY fault. (mind you, he's been doing this for over 30 years and this was my FIRST bathroom reno). I also told him that the website where I purchased the vanity has multiple pictures of sinks centered over the full width of the vanity and not just over the doors, and even sent them links to the pictures. They told me that ours "didn't look like that, because we had additional drawer units to the side" . I told him that my husband would be dealing with him from now on, and that he still had to collect the rest of my money, and would have to provide a satisfactory solution before he would get the rest of his money. So, my husband went by the same day, and was told that he could pick out ANY other granite on the lot and they would do it for "just $300". We went by the following weekend to pick out a new granite piece and give them the correct measurements for the sink location. The counter was delivered within three days, BUT when the guys brought it, the invoice was for $300 MORE than the remaining balance on our project. They had already removed the old piece of granite and put it in their truck (where there was still at least 48" of usable vanity material remaining). Now, at this point, I am furious. They made the mistake, and to rectify it, decided to charge me $300 MORE to fabricate the new counter (when I had returned a usable piece of material back to them, which they gave me no credit for!). At this point, too, the rest of my bathroom project is being held up because we cannot complete the plumbing or side/backsplash until it the counter and sink are installed. After continuing to argue with the girls who work in the front of the store, I got nowhere with them, so in order to cut my losses, I sent my husband over with the check for the remaining balance (including their additional $300), and told them that we would NEVER use them again and would make sure that anyone we know who is remodeling a kitchen or bathroom did not use them either.
The counter looks nice, but their finishing is sub-par. Lots of pits and crevices that "catch" on disinfecting wipes and dusting rags when we clean it. I would never use this company again, and have kicked myself in the butt several times for not using the granite supplier that my contractor recommended.
