On October 16, 2015 Chris Richardson, Owner of A Plus Service and Repair answered a service call to repair our GE Monogram Refrigerator/Freezer. The freezer was icing up, had icicles on the shelves, and ice down the inside walls of the freezer. The refrigerator was working well. On that afternoon Chris Richardson replaced the defrost timer and told us that we should give the freezer an hour or two to get to a proper temperature. After 2 hours the temperature in the freezer was 62 degrees and the refrigerator?s temperature was 58. We called Chris immediately and from Friday night through Sunday, October 18th, we texted back and forth with Chris who promised to come, but never showed up. On Monday, October 19th Bill Gray from East Coast Appliances came and diagnosed the problem as a puncture in the evaporator, which is part of a sealed system. Instead of using a heat gun, Chris had chipped at the ice build-up and, in the process, punctured the system causing a Freon leak. On October 19th we contacted Chris by text requesting that he provide the name, policy number and contact number for his insurance company (his business card states that he is insured). No response. Then a week later (October 26th) we sent him a letter and a copy of the bill from East Coast Appliance by email, by regular mail and by certified mail. No response from Chris. On Sunday, November 1st we sent by email and regular USPS a letter stating that we intended to file a claim. No response. We have since taken him to Small Claims Court to try to recover the cost of replacing the complete sealed system (which cost us $3951.16) we are also seeking court costs. Chris never responded to any of this, and because he did not show up in court, he has lost the case by default. Can we collect? That's the next challenge. There's no way he should be recommended by anyone, much less Angie's List!! Does Angie's List stand behind the companies on their list?
Had freezer door apart a
nd removed flap where ice is dispensed. Tried to maneuver flap but unable to make proper seal. Ordered part and was to return. Made numerous call and finally returned with part. Installed part and claimed the problem was fixed. After 2 days the problem still existed. Called and called and called. Promised to return several times but did not show up.I decided to get a 2nd opinion and called A Plus Service and Repair. Chris did an excellent job! He showed up on time and immediately started working on my fridge. As it turned out, the compressor didn't need replacing, Chris ended up saving me a few hundred dollars and fixed the problem in about 1 hour!
I can't recommend A Plus highly enough to anyone in Jacksonville. Chris is a true professional and even followed up with me the next day to make sure everything was running ok!
