It went horribly. Discussions started in NOV 2009 and he provided an estimate in JAN 2010. The job started well but essentially stopped in FEB 2010. He never had the roof assessed. The cabinets and lighting were pretty much done in two weeks. Communications were horrible. Numerous excuses about why this two week job couldn't get completed. I suspected cash flow issues all along. Kept telling me he would show up and then didn't. Often took days to respond (almost always by email/text and rarely by phone). Couldn't get appliances. Kitchen was torn up; not much progress until Apr. Never got the countertops done but had a $2K deposit for months. When pressed for a schedule, he'd come up with one and never meet it. In MAR he accused one of his workers of stealing money and the job book from him (clearly to buy him more time). Started getting appliances in APR. No counter tops. Fired him in MAY 2010 and met to equitably adjust the money he owed me. We agreed on three things: the amount owed, plus $1000 to correct numerous discrepancies in my house and that we would hold the backsplash in abeyance until the counters were installed. He had insisted on installing the backsplash before installing the countertops. He had not yet invoiced me for the backsplash but there were already cracking issues with it. So he agreed to pay and then he didn't have the money for me. Weeks went by. He signed a piece of paper agreeing to pay the amount. He eventually admitted that the story about the co-worker stealing money was a lie (he floated my money to another job) and that he had been ducking our phone calls. We already knew the story was a lie because we tracked the individual down. So he agreed to deliver the check in person. He slid the check under my front door and it was $1000 short. He explained it was for the backsplash. The backsplash that was already cracking and required work. So in short - he's the worst I've ever seen. He doesn't QA his work. He's a master saleman and didn't deliver. He's absolutely dishonest. Told me he was licensed, doesn't overrun his estimates, doesn't float money between jobs and that work would be to my 100% satisfaction. For whatever reason, he failed to deliver. His communications stink - he will tell you anything to get you off the phone and then not talk to you for days. Lastly, when we settled up he was all apologetic. Wanted to do anything to make things right. Looked me in the eye and agreed on a price. Then shorted me a grand for lousy backsplash that was initally estimated at considerably less and had major issues. I have all the documentation. If you hire him - you deserve what you get. It was the worst consumer experience I've ever had and wouldn't wish it on anybody. He's got talent but I didn't see muchof it.
