The next day (6/25/13) the motor shut itself down and was very hot. The issue was discussed with the owners who said "they could not determine the problem without looking at the motor" again. The technician returned to retrieve the motor.
The next day (6/26/13) "Richard" called to offer a new replacement motor and would "not charge for the service call or shaft seals", a value equivalent to what would have been incurred had the original diagnosis been to replace the motor instead of trying to repair it. I agreed over the phone that that was fair. After the first replacement motor would not start later that morning, the technician returned with a second replacement motor which at the present moment is operating. However, when presented with the second invoice #90446 for the additional new motor charge, the technician did not include credits of the original service call or shaft seals. Instead, they claimed that the waived charges discussed were for a second service call to replace the motor, leaving intact the original charges for work that would not have been necessary had the original bench diagnosis been accurate.
When this was brought to the attention of "Debbie", the owner, she threatened to place a Mechanics Lien on the property or remove the motor if the invoice was not immediately paid.
Either their "bench" has insufficient diagnostic skills or capability or their practices are deceptive. Either way, I would not do business with them again.
Invoice details:
First invoice #90423 6/24/13 service call $75, two replacement bearings $75, one replacement shaft seal $25, one pump body gasket $12, tax $11.22, total $198.22.
Second invoice #90446 6/26/2013 one 3/4 HSQ095 $208, tax $12.48, total $220.48.
"Due to circumstances beyond our control, all four motor bolts are not an uncommon occurrence. We live in a very corrosive environment (Brevard County is the most corrosive county in FL) and this is the leading contributor to the condition of this customers motor. Motor bolts are very hard to come by. Usually you have to scavenge them from other motors. Unfortunately we did not have the through bolts that this motor needed. We even went so far as to check with another company that works on motors to see if they had any. The customer got his motor back and seal plate, and thru bolts back by paying our shop charge (to cover our labor time)and ten dollars for two new bearings (this is cost for them). We are always happy to go the extra mile so-to-speak with our customers but as is always the case, you cannot please all the people all the time and for some reason some people think you should not charge for your labor time."
I went with another local pool pump installer who agreed that the pump was running too hot and the original installer had installed an irrigation pump motor and not a pool pump motor. This irrigation motor was not strong enough and didn't match the specs of what was required for the pool. Not only did the new installer put a proper pump on that was even a higher grade he charged almost $100 less. Buyer beware of C&W Pump & Irrigation!
......
When the pump motor was replaced by another company I returned the pump to C&W at their store (which was a mess I migth add and not professional looking at all) and they refused to give me a receipt and still charged my credit card for the purchase. I went back and complained and they threatened to have me arrested if I ever set foot in the shop again. I will have to go through my credit card company to dispute the charges. What a hassle!
"We replaced his motor and would have replaced it again under the manufactures warranty with no additional charges, but he became angry because of the motor becoming hot. At that point he threw the pump cover at me so we refunded the cost of the motor parts and tax. We did not refund the service call because we want out all three times he called."
"This customer was so arrogant I was blown away. He wanted to know how to replace bearings since he did not want to pay for the service of bearing replacement in the future. Could he watch it being done? Could I least tell him how it is done? After I picked my jaw up off the floor I asked him why he did not look it up on the net some where and do it himself. Simple story on this one."
