The other lowest price company(the hacks) were going to blindly drill and try to fill the erosion behind the seawall by pouring concrete in the holes and then resealing the top. But they were not going to fix the front of the seawall other than trying to skimcoat it which would break apart in 6 months. The company for $6,500($2,500 more) was going to do the same thing. Blindly drilling and pouring concrete, but they were going to fix the front seawall by taking out and repairing just the unlevel top part of the seawall. The company for $9,000 was going to open it up, fill in the voids and then seal it back up making the front look nice too by removing the sections that were in need of repair and replacing them. But I was told when they open it up, depending on what they find, it could end up being more expensive than $9,000.
So what was Affordable Piling's suggestion and price? As stated before, their price was $4,000. They said the right to do it was to open it up, see what is there and address the issues. He would also remove the damaged portions of the seawall, repair them, replace the top that was uneven and then seal it all. From his expertise, he quoted me $4,000 and he also stated it could end up being more expensive if they find extensive damage once it was opened up. Now since his price was so reasonable, I was a bit leary that they may open it up and then the price would go up $5,000 since I would then be at their mercy. But he seemed very sincere and I checked them out on the BBB and with the Chamber of Commerce and all was good. I probably check people out more than most as I am new to the area.
When the wall was opened up, I don't think any of the other companies would have figured I had areas of extensive voids from the front of the seawall going back as far as 15 feet( my entire backyard is concrete). It even shocked me. I was fully prepared to hear those dreaded words of it will be $4,000 more or something. So when he said it was only going to be another $500, I was happy as can be. It was still a lot less expensive than any other company and I could see it was done right! I could also see they ended up having to get another load of concrete so they used double the amount they anticipated.
I can't say enough good things about Affordable Pilings. Paul is a straight shooter. He keep me in the loop with the schedule and provided pictures before, during and when the job was complete. The pictures really showed how bad the damage was to the seawall. My wife now enjoys going to the back of our house where she hated it before as she thought it looked dumpy as it was dingy and uneven. Affordable Pilings did a nice, even coat to finish off the wall and cleaned up all the debris. The only way you would know they were here is I now I have secure, level, nice to look at seawall!
I will use them in the future for my dock, boat lift and jet ski lift without a doubt.
