My wife and I wandered into Source 1 Marine looking for a used pontoon boat around the $10,000 range in mid-December of 2014. We arrived in my old 1997 Chevy 4x4 ranch truck wearing shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops. We were greeted by Mark Urban in the sales lot, and in utter contrast to other sales people we'd spoken to, he treated us like we were family right off the bat. Treated us like someone coming in to spend $35,000, not $10,000. So we did. Story follows.
Mark didn't have a $10,000 outfit for us, but he took the time to show us around the lineup of their Avalon luxury pontoons anyway, (and I do mean luxury!), and we fell in love with them. So, Mark went to work to see what kind of a deal he could put together for us.
The deal was more than twice what we were looking to spend, but .....
Initially, we bought a 2013 NOS, (New Old Stock, if you're not familiar), LS 2500 with a used Merc 150 on it that they had taken in trade. My wife and I and a bunch of friends headed out to sea, (a 25 foot pontoon holds a LOT of people!), and the engine overheated. Crap!
So back to Source 1 we go, we got the owner involved, and he simply asked, "What do you want us to do to make this right?" They offered to fix the Merc or let us go with another motor. Since we have had used motors go south on us before, we elected to go ahead and step up to a new motor. They took the used motor back, ordered us a brandy-new Evinrude E-tec 135 HO, and just charged us the difference. All the re-rigging, (the better part of a day!), they absorbed. So now, at 62 years old, I have my very first completely new outfit, boat, motor, and trailer, and I couldn't be happier.
I've been back to Source 1 multiple times now for accessories, advice, and what-not, and everyone treats us like family. Their pricing is fair, they get the job done on time and as agreed, and it's generally just a great place to buy and/or service your boat. Thanks guys!
