Horrible experience. Unprofessional, messy, an environmental hazard and destructive. 2 hours late to start the job, they broke 40' of a paved pathway, removed fencing and left it leaning (it fell down immediately), removed shrubs they were supposed to leave, and left some they were supposed to remove. Cut off firecracker plants they were supposed to trim (the response to that was , oh well, they'll grow back). Tossed big branches into neighbors yard over the fence, left branches stacked all over my yard, left piles of bricks and a stump in another neighbors yard, took a concrete bench apart and left it in pieces. Hacked at stuff with a huge gas hedge trimmer, it will take a couple of years for some of the plants to recouperate. Dug up plants and left the holes, didn't even bother to shovel the dirt back in. Crepe myrtles still have all the dead blooms on the from last season. Because I didn't want kerosene poured in the ground on top of multiple stumps (they combine kerosene and stump remover) they brought in a stump grinder (the original agreement was 2 big easy to reach stumps would be ground, small shrubs would be dug up). Instead they brought the stump grinder (size of a small old style mini cooper car) and destroyed about 50' of a pathway made of pavers. Many are broken, all are moved out of place. They did not care that the pathway was destroyed, said it wasn't laid right anyway. However there was never supposed to be a stump grinder in that area, and I felt a professional would have realized that was too much weight to put on a walking path made of pavers, no matter how well laid it was. Snapped off a sprinkler below ground and left it sitting there, bent 2 others. (I need sprinkler work done, I am only mentioning the items they broke while here). All of them smoked while working, which made it difficult to discuss the job with them without inhaling smoke. the owner knew I was unhappy, and after he left I did the walk through that he promised but did not do, and immediately called him. He would not pick up the phone, so I left a message and asked for someone to at least nail the fence back up and put the concrete bench back together. I also requested they fix the sprinkler heads they damaged. When I realized he would not call me back I called his partner and he promised to come over in about an hour to put the fence and bench back, but never showed up. When I complained through Angies list he called me rude and demanding. This is not a company that should be on Angies list in my opinion.
Update: My yard is not a disaster, it's a garden, and everyone that comes in absolutely loves it. It had become overgrown because my husband who is a retired disabled veteran has had multiple health issues this year and I simply didn't have time to keep my garden in shape. What my yard is not is an office complex where everything is trimmed in squares. The work to be done was all in the contract, and I did not ask him to fix any preexisting problems (the fence needs replacing and the sprinkler system needs work) - just finish what they were paid 1300.00 to do. I did not want kerosene poured in the yard, which is their preferred stump treatment, and I told him that when he did the bid. The original agreement was to grind 2 medium large stumps and dig the rest. Instead they brought a huge stump grinder in and ruined our pathway.
However they feel about the quality of the work they did, they should never have left me with a fence that was not nailed back in place (yes the fence is old, but until I get it replaced I still needed it put back up, as agreed) and the concrete bench should not have been left apart for me to deal with.
My neighbors are nice people, and 2 of them asked me when that company was coming back to finish the work that left them with such a mess - when I explained they would not come back they came over and helped me nail the fence back up, and offered to help me fill in all the holes. One neighbor had big branches tossed over his fence, another had bricks tossed into her yard and a stump left by her mailbox.
When asked to fill in the holes they dug removing plants they refused, saying rain would eventually even it all out.
The "repair" to the pathway was kicking a few pavers with his shoe, and saying it was never laid right anyway. No comment on all the broken pavers, or why a stump grinder that large was brought in.
His handyman did not refuse work from me- when the owner would not return my calls I called his handyman, who promised to come by and put the fence back up and replace the concrete bench pieces if they weren't too heavy for one person, but didn't show up.
They left shrubs they were supposed to remove, removed shrubs they were supposed to leave. They all smoked while working.
I don't appreciate being called names (this is the second time), and honestly - do you want someone in your yard that has the potential to call you a "wacko" if you want them to finish the work they were well paid to do?
My original complaint:
They left a huge mess (broken pavers, holes unfilled, bricks tossed in neighbors yard, branches, etc.). I was so distracted explaining to Tim, that I have never had a company leave such a mess behind, that I did not notice they had broken at least 3 sprinkler heads, one was snapped off below ground. They moved and did not put back a concrete bench, left a stump in the ground that should have been removed, and the fence was not reinstalled it was just propped up.
His answer to that was I had sprinkler problems before I started, my workers did not do it. He also promised to do a walk through before he left and never did it. He will not return my phone calls.
I would have given him an "A" if he had finished the job neatly.
"This lady is wacko. First off a lot of her problems was pre-existing, she told another business owner that her irrigation was not working, also her walk path pavers were already uneven from rain wash out, but when she hired another gut to do stump grinding his machine broke a few of her pavers and made it a lil ore uneven, before that I suggested to remove stumps a different way but she was stuck on having them out right away with the grinder. Now as far as the mess goes the place was already had over growth, dead plants ect. It was a disaster when I arrived, the work she had us do really spruced the place up and even tho she was the rudest person I ever meet I still stayed behind and straightened out her pavers the best I could, it seem at the end of the job she was trying to get me to repair all these preexisting problems she had and I wasn’t going to let her run me over. Even her neighbors didn’t have anything good to say about her. Also my handy man turned down work from her because she was so rude and demanding. I feel that my crew went above and beyond for this lady they did a good job but sometimes you can’t satisfy them all."
