We had a terrible experience with LaPensee. We hired their pool division to replace a pool light that was out. After installation, it began intermittently to turn on and off, so we called them for service. We were never at the property when the service calls came, but every time we returned the pool light still went on and off on its own. We called them out at least three times, we were never at the property (which we use part time) when they came, and they never called to report that it was repaired. This went on for over two years and then after complaining they came out again and diagnosed that we needed an electrician to replace the transformer insisting that nothing was wrong with the light fixture. This made sense so we spent $300 to have the transformer replaced, and the pool light continued to turn on and off. We reported this, and they sent another technician, who inspected it and left, and shortly after the entire pool light fixture fell out and was floating in the pool by the wires. We reported this again and someone came and pushed it back in. They advise that they will now replace the pool light but none available due to supply shortages. Now the pool light doesn't even turn on at all. We paid nearly $1,000 for this work and they never offered to compensate us.

The plumber arrived on time. He was very knowledgeable and skilled. The water heater was a well known national brand and highly rated. The cost was exactly according to the estimate, the lowest of 4 estimates I received.

Our HOA contracted with this company to test backflow preventers throughout our development. Testing was covered by the HOA, repairs if needed were the responsibility of the homeowners. Fair enough. Lapensee came to my home, tested one of the two backflow preventers, and told me that it needed to be repaired. They said that if I had it fixed right then, I would save the cost of a service call; otherwise they would have to charge for a service call. They told me it needed a check valve seat. I asked them for the price of the repair--they said that they didn't know, it was up to the main office. I told them to go ahead. It took all of about 5 minutes. When I got the bill, it was for $127.50. I complained to the office. They said that this amount was a flat rate for any repair. I told them that the repairman they sent out said I would save the cost of a service call. They told me that the repairman wasn't authorized to tell me that and that he was wrong. So I was billed $127.50 for a $5.00 part and 5 minutes of labor. OUTRAGEOUS. They refused to adjust the bill.

I have had two members of your plumbing repair team out to my house in the last 24 hrs and the toilet tank is leaking worse than it was when I first contacted your company. I understand water leaks are difficult to diagnose and correct however I would think after two attempts of re-seating the tank to the bowl it would be solved. Did either technician replace the gasket or just reuse the existing one? Can someone please help me or do I need to contact another company? We started using LaPensee as our primary plumbing and pool services contractor several months ago and haven't looked back. Despite a reputation for being somewhat expensive, LaPensee's pool services cost less per month than two firms we auditioned earlier.
Pros:
- Spot-on scheduling & follow-up
- Perfect installations & repairs
- Prompt & professional, from the office managers to the field staff
- Multifaceted expertise: propane gas work, standard plumbing, pool services, backflow testing & repair
Cons:
- Somewhat expensive (but worth it)
I can't recommend this firm highly enough.

Installation of a new toilet, and an accessory, was scheduled to be between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. The installer did not arrive until 4:30 p.m., after I called the office to re-confirm the appointment. The installer arrived without the proper equipment to perform the installation. Holes needed to be drilled into the cement floor, and he had no cement drill bits to accomplish this. I provided him with my own cement drill bits. Most Florida homes today are built on a cement slab, and bathroom floors are finished with a layer of tile. It is surprising that he would not have the tools available for a proper installation given this standard. Once the installation was finally completed, I expressed concern to the installer that the water tank was not mounted securely to the bowl. A simple press with a finger caused the water tank to sway back and forth. The installer specifically advised me that this was appropriate for this toilet model. I was concerned that a small child could push on the water tank, and cause it to break off completely from the bowl, causing possible bodily injury, and water or other significant damage to my home. In response, he advised me to get a “2x4” piece of wood, and silicone adhesive, and glue the wood to the wall behind the water tank. This would supposedly stabilize the water tank. I’ve never heard of something so preposterous, and it certainly caused me to question the competency of the company and its employees. After I complained, the plumbing supervisor arrived, and he corrected the installation. His excuse for the above work was that the installer probably didn't have the proper wrench. One part was also found to be missing from the installation. I wrote to the owner of the company regarding that part, and reported the initially defective installation. Neither the owner or anyone else at this company responded. Further, there was an outstanding balance due on the above, and I was not billed for the amount unpaid until three months later. That bill then contained two months of erroneous finance charges, which were not my responsibility. They were removed without comment after I complained. Never once was there an apology for any of the above.

"[Member name removed] contacted our showroom manager 8/7/13 to order a specific Toto toilet and bidet seat. He was quoted a discounted price for the fixtures, agreeing his placed the order and deposit. 8/21/13 The toilet replacement was scheduled between 2p – 4pm. At 3:18 the plumber started traveling toward him and our dispatcher called [Member name removed] to let him know we were in route. Arriving and starting work at 4:20pm by GPS. The installation plumber removed & replaced the toilet & installed the bidet seat. There was no leaking, however the plumber did not tighten the toilet tank bolts enough, and causing movement. The plumber gave NO such advice for the owner to put a 2 x 4 on the wall. The next morning the plumber reported to our supervisor the wobble of the tank. We also received an email from the customer that morning for the same and a missing part. With apologies our Supervisor was onsite to correct the wobble within hours. The missing part was identified as a small stick on buffer to pad the between the seat and tank. It was ordered locally on 8/22/13. There was none in stock, so the part was to be shipped when received. 8/27/13 Checking on the part, it was now in backordered. We then contacted Toto on behalf of the customer; Toto Warranty Case #282855 mailed the buffer on 9/2/13 directly to [Member name removed] The customer was invoiced for the service 9/7/13, with down payment applied. [Member name removed] called our showroom manger to complain he had been overcharged for the toilet. She sent her original email to him showing the quoted prices and showed him where the discount in Red was on the invoice. He said he would mail a check for balance, none was received. Our Office Manager then mailed reminders and left phone messages to contact us for payment over the next 3 months. [Member name removed] called 12/18/13 he claims to have sent a certified letter in August instructing us to pay the balance of this invoice on a credit card. We received only his email on 8/22/13. He refused to say who signed for it, just told me to find the letter and charge the card without the finance charges. When I assured him that of course, he did not need to pay the finance charges, he said he would be lodging a complaint about us. [Member name removed] called our office on Feb. 20, 2014 to request a new plumbing service with us. We were unable to accommodate him."

"I am sorry the member felt her situation was not taken care of properly. We preformed a drain clearing in 2003, found roots and advised if the problem reoccured to have the drain cameraed to discover the root invasion source. We did return to her home 3 more times over the next 5 years repairing toilets and replacing the water heater. Always with professional service that well received. If there has been any stoppage situations from 2003 to 2010 we were not called to service. On April 29, 2010 we were called for a stoppage that was cleared by the removal of small roots. The invoice was noted that a "hard spot" was noted in line along with 2 areas of root retrieval. 5 weeks later on June 2, 2010 we were called that the drain had stopped up again. We recommended a camera of the sewer to determine the problem. We advised the owner of the root invasion and were given permission to repair. The invoice clearly shows as a courtesy, we gave her a $50.00 discount on the sewer video and did not charge $75.00 for the service call to dig up and removal a large root ball from the sewer. Since the video also showed the condition of sewer also had other issues, the entire problem was not been addressed and the "bandaid" of the root ball removal only corrects one issue. The members, business partner came to our shop on June 10 to question the sewer video. In a respectfull manner we went over the history of the house and it's current sewer issues. He very nicely discussed the situation with our staff, showed no dissatisfaction. We again, apologize if we did not communicate well with the member. It is always our intention to meet and exceed our customers needs."
