They showed up a day early - which turned out to be a blessing afte rall. We moved from Atlanta to West Palm Beach. They loaded and unloaded everything. I was a shocked by the huge difference in the estimate vs the actual cost. My recommendation is to ONLY proceed with any mover with an in-home estimate.

arrived on time, some discrepancies in prices which were easily resolved.  i suggest totally going over the contract and making sure everything you want included is on the quote.  i used them before for a longer move within florida and would definitely use again.

I was interested in a "flat rate" move to avoid any surprise hidden charges.  I got several "flat rate" quotes and decided to go with Moving On Up (moving company).  It was the best rate and Lavie Tal, the gentleman that gave me the quote was professional and assured me it was flat rate.

On the day of the move 3 men arrived on time.  I explained to them what was being moved, right away the foreman Matt asked if I wanted the mattresses wrapped to protect them.  Of course, I said yes.  Then, I was informed it would be $22 for each mattress not including the box spring.  What was I to do, other then accept the "additional fee".  I was holding my breath as I watched them move my furniture.  in the previous moves the 2 pedestal dining table was unassembled to protect and move.  I made the suggestion and they insisted it was not necessary.   Needless to say, they table top was damaged along with 2 bedroom dressers,  and the bookshelf.  The china cabinet top piece was not crewed to the bottom piece.  I discovered this when I went to push it against the wall.  The new home has some damaged to the stair rails, the wall and ceil area.

Overall the three men were courteous,  but lacked experience and caused damage.   I have contacted their customer service and received a call back from Monica.  I need to submit a estimate for the home repairs and will need to deal with another department for the furniture damage.  I wonder how much more of my time this process will take.  I still have to unpack and organize my home.

Last note, I'm told by the foreman the other two men work for "tips".  What?  What happen to the flat rate?

Bottom line, I would not use them again or recommend them.

I was moving residence from Orlando, FL to Alfred, NY. On May 27th, I contacted Moving On Up by telephone and using their internet estimate tool. I asked for an initial quotation based on my estimate of my personal effects being approximately equal to a one bedroom apartment. Later on I revised my estimate and gave them a precise date based on my travel plans. They committed to picking up my personal effects on Wednesday the 17th of August at 6 pm. This was contained in a binding estimate and I had paid $80 being 10% of their estimate of $832.The day before my move I called them as I hadn't heard from them to confirm their arrival. At that point they asked me whether they could pick up my personal effects (which I had boxed) the next day as their truck had broken down. I explained that I was flying out the next day at 6 am so unless they could come by 4 am the next day, I would not be at home. The next day, they called me three hours before the move to tell me that the earliest that they would pick up my boxes was the following day. As a result I had to cancel my flight ticket (losing $120.40), book a ticket on the flight the following day (costing me $ 325.40) and had to take a taxi to the airport (costing $ 55) the following day as I had to make new arrangements for getting to the airport. When I spoke to Moving On Up on that day they were insulting and said that it was not acceptable to book my ticket to fly out on the day after they had agreed to pick up my boxes. They said that they wanted to cancel the contract as Alfred, NY was a small town that was not of the same size as Rochester or Buffalo or New York City. They said that they could no longer commit to delivering my boxes within ten days of picking them up. I had to send an email saying that it was acceptable to deliver the boxes within a month. When Moving On Up showed up at 10 am on the 18th of August, they did so in a van rented from Enterprise. They could have rented that van the previous day. They added taxes to their original estimate resulting in a total price of close to $900. They picked up my boxes within half an hour. They would not give me an exact date and time for delivery when I made repeated phone calls from Alfred, NY. Finally, I sent them a letter with a copy marked to the police in Hollywood, FL.  I informed them that since they weren't committing to a date and time for delivery, I would have to assume that a theft of my personal effects was in progress. They delivered my boxes on September 27th - one month and nine days after picking them up. The police in Hollywood, FL visited the office of Moving On Up to make inquiries. When the police contacted me, I informed them that the boxes had been delivered and I would be taking further action if necessary through the courts. As the boxes had been delivered, there was no longer a case of theft for the police to investigate.I have sent letters to Moving On Up asking for compensation for my cancelled air tickets. They have not shown any indication that they will be compensating me for the breach of contract that they committed.I hope that Angie's List will be able to persuade them that compensation is necessary for their breach of contract. The contract is the Binding Estimate that they provided to me. They committed to picking up my boxes at a time and date. They did not keep that commitment. Thanks.
Response from MOVING ON UP
"We would like this issue to be resolved as soon as possible. Before addressing the complaint from our customer (Member), Moving On Up, Inc would just like to say that it is always in our best interest to try and satisfy all of our customers’ needs. We moved Mr. (Member) from his home in Orlando, Fl to Alfred, NY on August 18th, 2011. At no point did our company guarantee a delivery date to Mr. (Member). Upon booking his move with our company and speaking with the sales representative it was explained to Mr. (Member) that the price for the move he was receiving was based upon him being flexible upon delivery, it was also explained that because of the location of where he was moving to it would take longer than usual to deliver his items. We made every attempt to deliver Mr. (Member)’s items as quickly as possible when there was another shipment going in that same route. Mr. (Member) knew about these limitations and agreed to it from the first time he decided to use our company. Our office addressed all of Mr. (Member) concerns; however Mr. (Member) still felt it necessary to contact the local authorities to come to our office investigating whether or not we had stolen Mr. (Member) belongings although he had already received delivery. It seems that Mr. (Member) is taking every opportunity necessary to deface our company. Mr. (Member) refused to go through our customer service/ claims department which is set-up to help our customers. Mr. (Member) is asking for compensation, and Moving On Up, Inc wants to know exactly what for? Moving On Up, Inc held up our agreement from the contract. Mr. (Member) received all of his belongings, which were mainly all boxes, and some luggage, which Mr. (Member) initially advised us that he was in no hurry to accept delivery. It is not our company’s intention to withhold our customer’s items from them. We have not existed in the moving industry for over 14 years by intentionally dissatisfying our customers. Moving On Up, Inc is hoping that this response will finally be able to resolve this matter once and for all. Thank you."

After the move was complete, I noticed that a very large gold necklace was missing, but the case was still here.  When I contacted the company, they asked me if I was accusing them of stealing, which I didn't feel comfortable accusing them of anything since I didn't know about any kind of retaliation.  I am very dissatisfied with the way I was personally handled, they were not apologetic, but they were hostile, and were asking why I waited a month and 8 days to report the missing necklace.  I didn't notice it was gone until today and I've thoroughly checked my new home to make sure it wasn't misplaced and I still cannot find it.  All the valuable jewelery that I packed, myself, is still accounted for, but it's just this one piece that is missing.  There was also damage to some of my things, and general carelessness with how they handled my property.
