GRIFFITHS CUSTOM UPHOLSTERY

A decorator recommended using Clifford after we had an awful experience with another upholsterer. I was happy to discover that Clifford does all the work on his own, unlike other companies that just subcontract out the work to vendors who don't care about the work they do. Clifford takes pride in his work. We brought him samples of fabrics we were considering for our various pieces, and Clifford advised us which fabrics would hold up best for their intended uses. In the process of reupholstering two antique club chairs he discovered four layers of fabric on the chairs. Other upholsterers in the past just kept on reupholstering over the existing fabric. Instead of doing the job the easy and fast way, Clifford removed each layer (he gave me the proof and in the process brought back 50 years of memories) and rebuilt the chairs the right way. He pointed out to us how the shape and proportions of the chair are distorted if upholsterers don't remove the old fabric before reupholstering a piece. He knew to save and reuse the original horse hair filling; something other upholsterers might not know to do, assuming they took the time to remove the old fabric. Clifford meticulously aligned the pattern of the fabric making sure flowers were centered, and that the pattern matched up at the seams, etc. He built and upholstered a headboard, matching bed skirt, and decorative pillow. The bed skirt was a little too long on one side, perhaps because our wood floor was not level. Clifford came back, re-measured and fixed the bed skirt so that it hit the floor exactly where we wanted. We also gave Clifford measurements for the decorative pillow, but after he made it we thought the pillow didn't look right. Clifford made the pillow smaller for us at no charge. We also had a antique wing chair and love seat reupholstered and are very happy with the results. I think his prices were very fair and the turn around time on the work was very fast.
