"After reviewing this complaint, I found that there was a long list of minor things wrong with the machine when we first saw it. The customer received an itemized bill listing what was done and the parts that were replaced. The oil and oil filter were replaced, along with the fuel filter, fuel shut-off valve, deck spring, etc. The blades were sharpened as well. With general maintenance like this, the deck is not necessarily removed from the machine. When we received the call back that the machine was still not cutting properly, we sent a mechanic over to the house, free of charge, to see what was happening. He removed the deck and discovered a broken spindle shaft. Please note that this machine had been used in between the first time we worked on it and the second time. It is possible that the spindle shaft was cracked when we saw it the first time, but since we would not have actually looked at that part of the shaft while doing general maintenance, we would not have any way to know that. Mowing the lawn once could have easily been enough to break or finish breaking this part. Our technician replaced the part, charging the customer only for the part. She did not get charged for the second pick up and delivery, or for labor the second time, only for the part itself. This was a discount of at least $75 for replacing a broken part that was not in any way related to the work we did the first time, merely trying to please the customer. We are, of course, unhappy when our customers are unhappy and would welcome a chance to communicate in person with this customer about her experience."
