As a side note he recommended I use a Bayer systemic pesticide on my Ficus. At $50-$70 per bottle and with my hedges being so tall right now they are 7 feet tall one $70 bottle only covered 5.5 hedges. I either need to trim the hedges to 5 feet or ideally remove them and replace them. But there isn't really a great replacement. I am considering Holly Ilex x 'Nellie R. Stevens', as a replacement. I have already spent $300 on the systemic pesticide and to finish my other 25 hedges will cost another $350, and I should use it every 6 months according to John. At that price those hedges aren't worth keeping.
I wish I could just hire a landscape service to take care of it for me, it's a lot of work for a family to take care of, but until I decide to cut out my kids extra-curricular activities or my spending on private & homeschool, then we'll continue to try and do it ourselves.
