My wife and I have just moved from Arkansas to Jacksonville Beach, 17 blocks from where she grew up (moving back home.)  While we were getting our Home insurance, we were told if we could prove our home had wind mitigation per the state, our insurance rate would be reduced by a few hundred dollars.  Since we are on fixed income, this seemed to be a good investment.  While asking around we learned about Joe Chao, brother of a former High School friend.  Joe was a General Contractor for many years who had recently moved back to the Beaches.  He did not want to run a crew any more so he had applied for and received his license for home inspection.  He came out at the time appointed and explained the Wind Mitigation inspection that he was going to do and what he was looking for during his inspection.  As he went around the house and inspected the various components, he pointed out what he was inspecting for and what the requirements are per state and insurance company regulation. While he was here I asked a few other questions concerning our house and some problems with it.  He pointed out what the answers could be but because he was not licensed in that area, who I should call to get the problem corrected.  His answers were right on! My only problem with Joe was that I didn’t know about him sooner.  We had a home inspection done in June, prior to buying the house, by someone that missed a whole lot of things and just talked about window glass and electrical outlets.  That person was a waste of money.  I’m sure Joe would have given our house, prior to purchase, a REAL inspection.
