My husband and I moved into a rental house on Aug. 1, 2012. We are new to Gainesville; we moved here from south Florida and were unfamiliar with the nicer areas in town and the areas that should be avoided. Upon move-in, the house was absolutely filthy, a moldy stench throughout, a paint job that looked like it was done by a 3 year old (including windows painted shut), ceilings bowing and stained by previous leaks, dirty, old A/C units, rat droppings in the kitchen and laundry rooms, termite eaten windowsills and deck floors, nails jutting from cabinets... the list goes on and on. Our landlord came by and apologized for the condition that the house was in, saying he only had 2 days to get it ready before our move-in date. Well, inside of the mailbox was the mail forwarding date for the previous tenants- July 17, 2012. Even if the landlord really did have only 2 days to prepare the house, it shouldn't have been our problem, because we paid what was expected of us- security deposit, pet fees, first and last months rent in full, WEEKS before the move-in date. We ended up having a health and safety inspector come by and look at the house. Unfortunately, housing codes in Gainesville are embarrassingly low, so the house was not in poor enough condition to break code. It was, however, not acceptable for us, so 3 months later, we are breaking our lease and moving out.
Description of Work: I would not recommend this rental agency to anybody, ever.
